Book Description

1 Oct 2007
This book is enough to drive you parking mad. It's bad enough to return to your parked car to find a ticket stuck on your car windscreen. But what if you've still got an hour left on your permit, but the traffic warden decides to pre-emptively strike, as he thinks you'll go over? Or if your car is sat there because it has broken down? Or if your car isn't a car at all, but a bus, a rabbit hutch or a dead cow? Barrie Segal is 'the UK's leading parking ticket expert' according to Top Gear's Richard Hammond. In 'The Parking Ticket Awards', he has trawled through his vast collection of parking ticket stories to reveal the worst and weirdest traffic warden behaviour. The stories include - the dead cows ticketed as 'unattended vehicles'; the stolen car that was left as a burnt out wreck, and ticketed; the National Blood Service van that was ticketed as people donated blood inside; the bus that picked up both passengers...and a ticket; the van driver who threw his parking ticket on the pavement in disgust...only to be fined for littering; and, how even celebs like Madonna, Jude Law and Kate Middleton found themselves on the wrong side of the law. So park yourself down and indulge yourself in this hilarious compendium of traffic warden tales - it will be just the ticket.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Christmas Read 30 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
If you want something to keep you laughing through the long dark days between Christmas and New year, buy this great book. I couldn't believe the lengths traffic wardens will go to to issue tickets. I really enjoyed the way it's been presented. You can dip in and out at will and I often found myself laughing out loud. I saw Barrie Segal on the Richard and Judy show which is what prompted me to buy the book and I'm glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READ FOR EVERY DRIVER 2 Aug 2012
By mazzab
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book deals with a serious subject in a light, funny and entertaining way. If you have wondered why it is so easy to get a parking ticket this days, all the information is in this book. There are examples galore of the dirty tricks that are used to issue parking tickets and no vehicle is safe. Examples are a funeral hearse outside a church, a bus at a stop picking up passengers, yellow lines painted overnight under parked cars and tickets being slapped on in minutes the next morning. Of course, things are likely to get worse as the cash-strapped local authorities and their over-eager parking attendants think of more creative ways to fleece the ever put upon motorist of their hard earned cash. Actually, this book could save you from become a cash cow for the parking authorities. Buy it, read it, chuckle at the anecdotes, learn from it and arm yourself with knowledge to avoid those parking tickets or how to appeal if you are unlucky to be issued with one. This book is worth every penny you would have paid for it!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars usual nonsense 28 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
Whilst this book is amusing , it was disappointing that there was insufficient legal background . Though some italicised notes were made, more were needed. It is curious that NPAS was not mentioned at all. And I note that the web site has no downloadable standard appeal letter, unless one pays for it.
