5.0 out of 5 stars Covers all bases 8 Nov 2013
This gem of a guidebook will make you want to jump on the next train/plane to Paris. The first half is effectively a listings book, with lots of cafes, bistros and food shops, but since the recommendations are all written first-person by Trish (and are each around 50-150 words), they feel much more personable. It's like having a local by your side, saying 'Follow me, I know this great little place...'

It's a bit hard to get a grasp of where the different places are, since they're grouped by category (bistros, speciality shops etc.) and there's no map, but the second half of the book works much more effectively. There's a brilliant section 'The very best...' in case you're craving onion tart, crepes or coffee and don't know where to go. There's a low-down on all the food markets and even a recipe section so you can trial a few dishes while planning your trip!

It's quite a heavy tome, so perhaps not one for carrying round as you walk around the city, but you could certainly pour over it while planning where to go each day - and come up with a long list of mouthwatering suggestions. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it 26 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I ordered this book because it is exactly what I would hope for to guide me through a gastronomic week in Paris at reasonable cost.
Having read it, I ordered another copy for my daughter and her family in Windsor, all of whom will visit Paris for some reason during the next twelve months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insider Foodie Tips 28 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a nicely produced book with good quality paper and glossy pictures to stimulate the palate. It's a very personal selection of eateries and food retailers. The subjective nature of the entries makes it more appealing in a way, as it gives you a better idea of the styles and ambiences. Trish's writing style is concise and witty. Entries are grouped by type, not always logically. The lack of any index or maps is rather frustrating. It's more of an inspirational foodie lookbook than anything, but it will give you some fun places to visit on your next trip to Paris.
