1.0 out of 5 stars Strasser's Paris Apartment a disappointment 18 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Having traveled extensively in France and appreciated the wonderful decor throughout that beautiful country, I was disappointed. If you can shop in New York or Paris, you can put this book to good use for its shopping references. If you know artists who work for free or if you are an artist yourself, you can execute some of Strasser's ideas for under $1800 for the type of apartment makeovers featured. For the rest of us, better pictures, better details, more inspiration appear in House Beautiful's "Small Spaces".

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice but.... 24 July 2010
In my opinion a very nice book it gives some solutions and decorative perspectives but [why there's always have to be a but] somethings can't be possible for example everything was either a very cheap flea market find or friends who happened to be professional painters and worked for free. I think from my personal experience as a shop owner and as a decorator for the past ten years and without trying to be arrogant i never found free work maybe a few friends helped but when i redecorated my apartment and with wholesale prices in furniture lights fabrics and professional work i spend ed at least ten not to say fifteen times more than the 1800 $ that miss Strasser gives as a budget. Another weak point is that we don't have clear view of before and after pictures or to say more boldly a few more photos of the rooms that were refurbished. On the other hand it is a good book very easy to read [i read it in two hours] very relaxing. So the bottom line is that i could recommend this book but don't be very optimistic but it can help. As for the title it could be also London apartment or New Work apartment in my humble opinion and i know a thing or two about french english and romantic interior design since it is my favorite kinds of decor. And a last thing the focal point of a Paris apartment and it's decor is the fireplace and in this book i haven't spot not even one.

The book explains the basis of design but there is not enought images to inspire you - if I see it on a shop I wouldn t have bought it as I did not learn much of it.

While some decorating books are impersonal and impractical, this unique scrapbook tells you how to bring the look you want home, without spending too much. It makes you think about your own personality and lets you know that you really should be living the high life!
