William Martin's walk on the spiritual side of parenting is a path that few people are brave enough to travel. In a world full of how-to-do-it-in-five- easy-steps help books, The Parent's Tao Te Ching rises above, creating a place where parents can dig deeper into their own spiritual wisdom. Instead of following the guidlines of another "expert" who has never met the readers' children or lived a day in their lives, parents are encouraged to seek the knowledge that is inherant in everyone; mother, father, guardian and child. I love this book and have bought several copies for all of my friends who are weeks away from becoming parents for the first time.

I read about this book in Oprah's magazine (my mother sent me a copy of the September issue of "O") and thought it would make a nice little gift for my sister. She and her husband just had a little boy and have read every parenting book ever written. I sent it in the mail without reading it and received a joyful phone call from her less than a week later. She said it was the best advice she'd ever received and I was the best sister in the world for sending it. I agreed and immediately ordered another copy so I could actually read the book. She was absolutely right. This book took me back to my childhood and healed some of the wounds without telling me what to do, how to act, what to say to get this or that reaction. The words simply quieted my heart and let my own soul answer any questions. I can't explain how peaceful it made me feel. She was also right about the other thing. I am the best sister in the world for sending it.

Bill Martain has once again shared the wisdom of a self centered soul. Having attended many of his lectures, I'm glad to see him share his ideas in print. Very useful advice on teaching a child to be a caring thoughtful citizen.

At last, parenting without guilt. Helps parent's reconcile their inevitable mistakes. Great advice for parents regardless of the age of their children. The book is beautifully written. It has an uncommonly attractive cover and design for a paperback book.

I cant stand parenting books (something I've come to realise through trying to find good ones), they ultimately cause more suffering for parents and children alike, in other words THEY DON'T HELP JACK. This book, finally, is something different. That something 'different' is hard to summarise. There are no rules here, or forcing, or controlling, just compassion, patience, and simplicity. Its about getting off their backs, losing our high expectations, ridding most of parentings conventional wisdom, and letting them blossom more naturally.

This is, and will be, the only parenting book i own. Though we don't really need parenting books per se, only our own healthy way of living, since we lead by example whether we like it or not. If you don't already have your own life/self together parenting books are totally useless even this one for that very reason because your teaching what you don't truly know or practice yourself. In that case go to work on yourself and your child will benefit. If your already on a healthy path yourself then this book is a nice direct addition to parenting.
