5.0 out of 5 stars Humour, warmth and a thoroughly satisfying read. 28 May 2008
Format:Hardcover
Humour, warmth and a thoroughly satisfying read.

Sparkling wit, a resourceful heroine, well-rounded and complicated secondary characters and a very stirring hero. Settle down to the delightful debut novel that is The Paradise Will.

It tells the tale of two young people forced by a wily and knowing uncle to dinners a deux. How could Sir Giles resist the intelligence and beauty of Alyssa? In turn, Alyssa would be mad not to fall for Giles - a gorgeous Regency hunk to rival even a damp Darcy for sexiness.

The exchanges between the two main protagonists are to be savoured, as is the gentle humour and it all ends most satisfactorily. I read it over a wet Bank Holiday weekend and didn't even notice the howling gales outside. Highly recommended. More please, Miss Hanbury!

5.0 out of 5 stars Regency romance at its best 21 May 2008
By Monica
Format:Hardcover
Elizabeth Hanbury's debut novel begins with a captivating premise: in order to inherit the family estate, Alyssa Paradise is obliged by her maverick uncle's will to dine alone once a week for six months with her new neighbour, Sir Giles Maxton. This is a Regency romance in the tradition of Georgette Heyer. Fine attention to period detail and a fast-paced plot is combined with a main character who is no simpering miss but as feisty and forthright as any 21st century heroine, while Sir Giles is impossible not to fall in love with. Best of all is the way the author combines real emotion with a wonderful witty style, and an Austenian sense of fun. A really good read: highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars My first Hanbury - but not my last 28 Aug 2008
By Karen C
Format:Hardcover
Although I'm an avid Jane Austen fan, I rarely read historical romance and I'd never bought a 'Regency' novel, not even a Heyer. So I wasn't sure what to expect from The Paradise Will. However, I'm so glad I stepped out of my usual reading groove as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The plot concerns the unusual terms of a will written by Alyssa Paradise's, uncle Tom. The will forces her to spend time with Sir Giles Maxton, an arrangement which at the outset of the novel, is irksome to both of them...

This book was an entertaining and deliciously romantic read with a cracking plot and several touching moments, particularly the ending. It had strong characters, a very sexy hero, a spirited heroine and witty dialogue.

I shall definitely be broadening my reading as a result.
