DVD Description

The Palace - Series 1 DVD contains the first installment of episodes from this witty and intriguing Royal drama, which reveals the dysfunctional truth behind the world's most famous family. The show begins with Prince Richard IV's (Rupert Evans) sudden accession to the throne following the unexpected death of his father, King James III. Young, accustomed to a more carefree lifestyle, and a little unconventional (in a Royal sense anyway), King Richard finds himself under immense pressure to quickly deal with his grief, fend off unwanted attention from the Press, battle against jealous siblings, and deal with family members who aren't confident in his ability to take the Crown. Alongside Evans, The Palace - Series 1 stars Jane Asher (as the widowed Queen Charlotte), Sophie Winkleman (as Princess Elanor, Richard's envious older sister), Sebastian Armesto (as Prince George) and Nathalie Lunghi (as the younger Princess Isabelle).

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Behind the scenes, Box Set, Cast/Crew Interview(s), Interactive Menu, Multi-DVD Set, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: THE PALACE follows the exploits of a fictional British Royal Family living in Buckingham Palace. After the death of the King, his eldest son Prince Richard (Rupert Evans) takes over the throne at the tender age of 24. As his mother Queen Charlotte (Jane Asher) mourns the death of her husband she turns to her manservant Jeremy for support. Princess Eleanor (Sophie Winkleman) is the oldest child and proud of her Royal stature, but her anger at being passed over for the crown threatens a rift in the family. As Richard's younger brother and sister enjoy and adjust to their roles, in equal measure, he is left with the daunting task of leading a nation whilst keeping the press sweet as they sharpen their knives ready for his fall. This glossy, high-concept series takes you inside a private world of secrets, backstabbing, power-play, family honour and duty. Clearly having fun with its creative licence, yet acknowledging that sometimes truth can be just as sensational as fiction. ...The Palace Series One - 4-DVD Box Set ( The Palace Series 1 )

I loved this series as it was different from the usual chavvy type of series lately in TV. Rupert Evans is very good as the young prince to be king and Zoe Telford really lights up the screen as Abigail. Altogether the acting is first rate by everyone in the cast. Storylines are believable and it is intriguing to see all the PR/cover ups that presumably go on in the palace circles. Cant wait the next part of the series -- Hope there will be a second one!!

Well done ITV 20 Mar 2008
Format:DVD
A totally addictive series that has made me really focus on how difficult it must be to be a real member of our real Royal Family. Apparently this production is a casualty of poor viewing figures - the British public doesn't know what it's missed out on! Let's hope our friends in other countries see it for what it really is and help it to earn its much deserved second series! Have thoroughly enjoyed the DVD - despite a disappointing picture quality - and, in particular, the extras. This is the best series I've seen for ages and this is one DVD that will be watched again and again and again! Money well spent!

This TV show has been great fun to watch, a frothy bit of Royal fluff, full of pretty people. A lot of the situations feel a bit daft, but Princess Eleanor's desire to be Queen drives much of the plot, and there is a bit of royal love-life and trauma for variety. The differences and similiarities between upstairs/downstairs life are particularly nicely done. All the actors get their own special little moments and everybody is obviously having fun, while taking the nonsense just seriously enough to make it work. The sets and costume are great, and really help to make the Palace more real.
I'm looking forward to getting into the box-set, hoping for good extras!
