4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for both children and adults 2 Jan. 2010
Format:Paperback
In the far future, the interstellar law enforcement body is thinly spread and has to use more subtle methods than simply sending in a battleship. Here are two tales of the specialist corps which work undercover, sending in a single man with some very specialised help -- the men of the Porcine Interstellar Guard, and the Robot Obtrusion Battalion Omega Three.

This pair of novelettes were written for children, but are equally entertaining for adults. Each story is a nicely constructed sf mystery, with both genres well integrated. In the first, a pig farmer arrives on a frontier planet with a ghost problem. But the pig farmer isn't a farmer, and his herd includes a collection of very bright mutant pigs with a talent for trouble. In the second, one travelling salesman shouldn't seem much of a threat to a cattle-ranching planet, but the locals are sufficiently paranoid to think otherwise. But not quite paranoid enough to notice just how many robots of all shapes and sizes will fit into that battered old spaceship... Deftly sketched characters, a pair of interesting plots, and often very funny, this is a cheerful short read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing tales of a future 1 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I first read these tales many, many years. They have stayed with me since then and now I have them on my Kindle rather than old fashioned paperback.

Two stories of the future about the Space Patrol, the interplanetary policemen. Two different problems for these heroes to deal with. One is dealt with by the man P.I.G and the other by the man from R.O.B.O.T.

Both are very different. One is solved by more natural means and the other by more technological means.

Overall, wonderful sci-fi set in an interesting universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry always makes me laugh 6 July 2013
By Tanya A
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love Harry Harrison's quirky and cynical perspective on life, which is reflected in his work without fail. These stories always hit at the root problems of humanity, be it bigotry, bureaucracy, pride, stupidity or just plain greed. His principle characters are always sympathetic and the type that one can relate to and identify with.
I thought I'd read all his work, so it was a real surprise and pleasure to find these.
The master at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not read a bad read from Harry Harrison yet 23 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The jokes start with the title and carries on into the stories.
Very much in the vein of his Stainless Steel Rat series.
Good guy never gets killed and wins over enemy [whether alien, machine or human].
Small stories for short journeys.
Download it and enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 30 Jan. 2013

I usually like Harry Harrison, but these are a long way from the Stainless Steel Rat stories,
I don't mind unbelievable plots, but the humour is crude and mostly unfunny
