Product Description

This major Hindi-English dictionary has been produced to meet the need of a growing number of people now learning and studying Hindi. Reflecting the many-sided development of Hindi during the 20th century, it provides over 36,000 headwords, with generous use of illustrative material showing words in use. Both colloquial and literary vocabulary is covered, together with some modern regional variants. The `Urdu' vocabulary of Hindi is well represented, as well as modern Hindi and English.

About the Author

Ronald S. McGregor has been a lecturer in Hindi at Cambridge since 1964. He is the author of many publications on the Hindi language and its literature.

This is the best Hindi-English dictionary imaginable 17 July 1999

My only regret is that there is no English-Hindi counterpart. This book includes all common usages of words in conjunction with verbs, as well as variations and related words. Also very helpful is the origin of each word, and its spelling in its language of origin. If you are student of Hindi, I could not recommend a better book. Mr. McGregor is my hero.

not romanised, so unless you can read Hindi script...

I was hoping that this dictionary would have the romanised (English) versions as well, not just the Hindi script, so it wasnt as well deascribed as I might like. Read more
