Amazing page turner 26 Feb 2012
By silvia
Great book, full of unexpected events.
The book gives you a picture of young people and gangs around the 60's.
It is a moving book, great page turner!

What really irritates me about this book is that the author was only 17 when this was published. It's enough to make this budding writer weep.
I have to come out and admit that I hate Catcher In The Rye. Holden Caufield could do with a good stern talking to and I was disappointed when I started reading this to discern the same type of voice in the main character. This quickly changed however and I found depths and layers in this book that were, for me, sadly missing in Salinger's book.
The characters were both likeable and easy to understand and I cared about what happened to them. I thought the story ended a few pages before it actually did but I'm not too big to admit to crying at certain scenes. A great read and a fabulous snapshot of America 50 years ago.
