All I can say about this film is it is a very very very poor film. The idea is good but the film just dosen't come together. I think the producers wasted the entire budget on casting Danny Dyer in the role lead, with a pointless cameo it-bit performance from Vinnie Jones...who I may add dosen't play anyone in particular only an imaginary figure of a football coach who bickers Dyer in his day dreams when things aren't going his way. The film mixes Dyer with a band of very bad actors and half the time you ask yourself wondering what is going on or what the point of the last scene was. The plot basically see's Dyer as an England football fan living in America who uses his new father in laws money too travel to Portugal with his new wife on there honeymoon..but purposley to coincide with the European Championships in 2004. With each city they visit they happen to bump into England fans and Dyer eventually gets to go to each game. Another thing which really baffled me is the two sports commentators who follow the couple around and commentate on the honeymoon. Lost ? Yes so was I...then there is the score and minute timer like you have on a televised game? If Dyer gets what he wants it counts as a goal...if he dosen't his wife gets a goal. It really is a very strange film...which I initially thought to be aimed at children until I heard a numerous collection of swear words. To cap it off this film is dire...no pun intended. The story line reads it out to sound as if this film is going to be a comedy...but its not...not even funny at any point...You don't see a ball kicked..nor is there any decent football-ish banter. If your expecting something like "The Football Factory"..this thing is closer to "Balamory"..and if your expecting something like "When Saturday Comes"...I'd say it's more like "Trainspotting". Very very very very bad film, something I am sure Danny Dyer who I list as a favourate actor of mine will be holely ashamed of.

Just see it! 19 May 2006

Saw this movie the other day at its London premiere. Can't understand why it's not getting a full theatrical release in the UK, but that's sometimes just the way things turn out...

Mark 'forgets' to metion to his newly-wed that their dream honeymoon in Portugal, funded by her father, just 'happens' to put him in the right place at the right time to use the three tickets he scored for Euro 2004. Can he make it to the games and keep his wife...?!

This is a romantic comedy with a surreal twist and more than a pinch of football - hints of Mike Bassett, Green Wing and Richard Curtis, among others. Another typically likeable rogue from Danny Dyer as Mark, an enjoyable performance from Vinnie Jones as Mark's 'manager', and a wonderful odd couple of commentators following the action, all make up for a slightly weak female lead.

An inventive and entertaining first feature from writer-directors Marlowe Fawcett and Richard Knockles, not to mention a timely reminder of the fun and games of Euro 2004. Buy the DVD and look forward to seeing more from them soon!

Other Half
Not the best Danny Dyer film, it was ok and had a few funny scenes at best a TV film. The idea of a 3rd party running a commentary of the events did not work for me.

Another Danny Dyer hit
Follows Danny Dyer around Portugal on his honeymoon as he does his best to go to every England game without his newly-wed Wife finding out. Great film, must watch.
