This sexy and thrilling new series from The Vampire Diaries' executive producer centers on the Original vampire family and the dangerous vampire/werewolf hybrid, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), who returns to the magical melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans - a town he helped build centuries ago. Acting on a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him, Klaus' questions lead him to his diabolical former protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), a charismatic vampire with total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of the city. Determined to help his brother Klaus find redemption, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) follows Klaus and is soon forced to side with Marcel's enemies. Meanwhile, Klaus and Elijah's sister, Rebekah (Claire Holt), must decide if she'll join her brothers in New Orleans and help them to reclaim their hometown and all its extraordinary offerings. Phoebe Tonkin also stars, among others.

I am a huge Vampire Diaries fan so I had to watch this, particularly as I had come to like Rebekah, Klaus and Elijah so much and was quite sad they would be leaving. After watching the back door pilot in the 4th season of TVD, I was hopeful this would be a great addition.
We are 5 episodes in now and I am loving it, it's quite a different tone to the vampire diaries but it really suits the characters and the setting of New Orleans .The storylines are exciting and the new characters are interesting, my only hope is that we see plenty of TVD crossovers to keep things still tied in, I can't wait to see where this goes and hope there will be many more seasons to come.

The Original Family were a highlight of The Vampire Diaries, so for them to have their own spin-off series is superb. I originally believed that the series would be far shorter than a regular season of TVD, and as such believed this would be a good thing as the stories would be progressive and straight to the point, thus opening the door for the family to return to TVD in the second half of TVD Season 5.

However, the season actually ran at the same length as a regular season of TVD and prevented the family from returning to TVD other than for cameo appearances. Nonetheless, The Originals provided a ton of enjoyment for fans and as time progressed the stories instead developed phenomenally and did not require quick endings. Personally, I ended up leaning my preference towards The Originals instead of TVD, and that's saying something considering the most recent series of TVD was immense. Even better, a second season has been commissioned so there's even more to look forward to than previously thought.

To conclude, I will definitely be purchasing this on release, and would fully recommend it to anyone else.

I have watched vampire diaries & enjoyed it,what my partner & I found interesting is it carries on a story of in depth in which you may of thought parts were missing from vd, its filling in missing gaps of the series. But its not identical too vd it has its own storyline that you get hooked into, wars:lust:family problems. Im watching season2 at the minute on syfy & enjoying it as much as I did the first. Lots of potential in this spin off!

Brilliant show, great actors and great plot lines. A bit more adult than Vampire Dairies, but just as enjoyable. I love Klaus and Elijah, just utterly brilliant acting. Really Fab Show!

So im guess you are wondering, is this as good as The Vampire Diaries? Its better, a million percent better actually.

TVD is boring, what with the tiresome triangles of Stefan, Damon and Elena, i mean how many reincarnations of Katherine and the Doppleganger can they actually keep coming up with.

I loved Klaus and Elijah and so happily followed them to the Originals.

Brief synopsis if you have never seen TVD:

Klaus, Elijah and Rebecca are the original family of vampires, the 1st ever created by their witch mother Ester. Their father Michael is a vampire hunter, and they also have/had brothers Finn and Cole who are both dead.

Klaus and his siblings created the town of New Orleans back in the 1800's but fled and now return to their home to take it back, however it is now being run by the vampire Marcel who Klaus sired.

The town consists of 4 factions, The Vampires, The Witches, The Werewolves, and the Humans, and each one fighting for bigger control of the city.

Klaus is a hybrid, part vampire, part werewolf, a fact he did not discover until he made his 1st kill as a vampire, turns out his mother had an affair with a werewolf so when Ester created the spell to turn them into vampires, she made Klaus a hybrid which means he cannot be killed by anything or anyone except by a white Oak stake created from the White Oak tree that Ester used to create the spell that gave them immortality.

Klaus also slept with a werewolf Hayley who became pregnant with his child and followed him to New Orleans.

There you go, all caught up.

This is so much more adult and significantly dark, the writing is brilliant, there is always so much drama and intrigue and killing, i thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Cant wait for the dvd to come out so i can watch it all over again.
