Book Description

Miss Honeyford was sour on romance, but she had been duly dispatched to London to save the family fortune by hunting for (and securing) a wealthy husband - and thereby proving her role as a loving if not entirely dutiful daughter. Honoraria obeyed. But if she was reluctantly willing to surrender her hand, this beautiful young lady who could ride, shoot, and argue with any man was not about to lose her head or her heart to any of the dismal cads in lads of the Marriage Mart. First she met the arrogantly attractive Lord Alistair Stewart, who treated her infuriatingly like a little girl. And then she met the skillfully seductive Lord Channington, who treated her intoxicatingly like the desirable full-grown woman that she was. But now that she had a choice, which role would she choose and just how much risk was she willing to run?

4.0 out of 5 stars Honey the Hoyden - Great Read!! 7 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Forward Ho! I continue to move through M.C. Beaton's books with great enjoyment. Honoria Honeyford (Honey) may well be the hoyden of all hoydens, being motherless and having a father who not only allows her to ride with hounds, curse like a man, drink like a man, smoke cheroots like a man - even the manner in which she clothes herself is drab, often mannish and she likes it that way. But when Amy Wetherall moves into the neighborhood and her parents host a gathering, Sir Edward, Honey's father, has an epiphany. He realizes after watching the lovely, ladylike Amy in action, all the gents at the gathering treat Honey like a man and Amy like lady - the result being Sir Edward quits smiling and realizes he and Honey have a problem.

Very shortly a reluctant Honey is on her way to London to the Marriage Mart where she will live with and be chaperoned by her Aunt Canon - with instructions by Sir Edward that Honey is to be given a makeover - clothing, style, manners. In short Aunt Canon must turn Honey into a lady.

Funny stuff happens en route to London, where Honey travels with three male servants, having no female relative or companion in attendance. Honey has a couple of escapades which throw her into the path of none other than Lord Alastair Stewart, confirmed bachelor and man about town. This sets the reader up for the one relationship that will be of major consideration in the storyline.

For indeed, after having bailed Honey out of a couple of sticky situations on the way to London, Lord Alastair is done with her and looks forward to never seeing her again - well, sort of. But, of course that will not happen because when Honey inadvertently winds up attending a hanging, Alastair is called upon to rescue her once again.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Original Miss Honeyford 1 Feb. 2015
By Damaskcat HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Miss Honoria Honeyford - Honey to her friends - is very far from being an ultra feminine female. In fact she is tough as any man and hunts, swears like a groom, carries a pistol for protection and has no time for dancing or dressing up in fine clothes. But her father has fallen upon hard times and Honey is being packed off to London to do the Season and find herself a rich husband who will help her father put his estates back in order.

Honey discovers that she actually isn't averse to dressing up and playing the reasonably demure miss when she realises that the ton actually consider her a beauty. In any case she wants to get the better of Lord Alistair Stewart who always seems to be rescuing her from scrapes and there's the charming Lord Channington who seems very interested in her.

This is an entertaining romp of a story where an engaging heroine strives to be what the world thinks she should be. I liked Honey - and wanted things to work out well for her. The dialogue and the situations Honey gets herself into are frequently amusing and not always predictable. If you want a light hearted book to curl up with on a cold winter's afternoon this may well fill the bill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another lovely story from M C Beaton 26 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love all of MC Beaton's work. she writes with such wit and style. My only complaint is that this is the second of her books I have bought for my Kindle that was incomplete. How can one contact Amazon about this?

5.0 out of 5 stars A 5 star story 29 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Another good read from a prolific author. Heroine Honey is sent to stay with her aunt in London to learn ladylike ways and catch a husband. She succeeds but the path of true love doesn't run smoothly. A couple of careless errors as usual eg his grain was in turmoil. There are so many M.C Beaton books and they are being released on kindle so quickly that mistakes are bound to be missed I suppose .

5.0 out of 5 stars More interesting than previous MCB romance books 25 Aug. 2014
By Puffin
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As ever, once the heroine has met the man who seems most unlikely, in the early stages, he is destined to be her husband, ultimately. However, this has some far more interesting twists and turns in it than many of MCB's other books and the ending comes with its own surprises! Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book 25 Sept. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have enjoyed the book. It was so easy to read, it is a frothy confection and where all the adjectives came from was beyond me. I loved the book and will be reading more of the Recency novels. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good light read 22 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The usual racy well written Regency story her readers expect. Predictable but enjoyable light reading. The characterisation is good, the story is interesting and the ending is happy!
