While the show appears to be a visual spectacle, I find this soundtrack to be dull & uninspired. It worked when Baz Luhrmann created the 2001 version of "Moulin Rouge!" by using various pre_recorded songs, but he gave them a fresh new twist. Now we get to hear songs we already know, sung by groups of people in chorus fashion, with very little lead vocals. The few we get are not stand out voices. It seems that the three lead males are actually replaced by "three divas" as the liner notes indicate. Reminds me of "Little Shop of Horrors", which also worked since they were simply narrators & lookers on, but not central characters in the show. Apparrantly whenever the guys are performing drag, we get the "three divas" instead. Every so often we get the real guys & rewarding. Nick Adams appears to have a good Broadway show voice, but he isn't able to stand out as the songs he has to work with don't really allow for any range whatsoever. The show may be lots of fun, but as an "Original Broadway Cast" album this is not. I think it will be easily forgotten. It's merely a showcase of songs we already have heard rehashed in a boring & forgettable style, especially since most of it is with large groups of people singing together.
