Bobby Vee was a great rock'n'roll balladeer of the early sixties. This European budget collection contains all the major international hits - Take good care of my baby, The night has a thousand eyes, Rubber ball and More than I can say. Bobby's version of Rubber ball had to compete in the UK charts with a cover by Britain's Marty Wilde, while More than I can say provided Leo Sayer with a major UK hit in the seventies. Bobby's other hits include Devil or angel, Please don't ask about Barbara and Sharing you. All these hits and others can be found here.
This is ideal if you are just looking for a basic collection of Bobby Vee's music, but more comprehensive collections are available for committed fans.

A quick look at the cover will correctly set your expectations of this album. A great slab of 60s pop music by a premier product of the 50s/60s American pop music machine. Some of the early bobbysoxer 60s cuts haven't worn well ("Devil Or Angel", "How Many Tears"), they now sound sappy and well, rather wet! However, they are prime examples of what was selling to teenagers pre-Beatles.

But, the power of the arrangements and production on others - such as "Take Good Care of My Baby" and "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" overcomes any suspicion of moisture, and delivers prime 60s pop music. When Bobby went a little more hippy in the mid-late 1960s (Exhibit 1: "Beautiful People", Exhibit 2: "Come Back When You Grow Up") the results were commercially less successful and they too haven't worn overly well.

All in all, if you want to get Bobby's hits - dated and not so dated - on one convenient platter, this is a good start point. These are all original hit recordings.

Alan T.
