This is Godsmacks sixth album, and it completes there metamorphosis from metal to rock hinted at throughout the IV and Faceless albums.
The Oracle is a brilliant, heavy album, with hints of blues, pure rock n' roll and tribal rythms throughout.
There is not a single weak song on this album, with the single 'Cryin like a bi*ch' standing out as a heavy thrash song made specifically for the UFC.
Other standout songs include 'saints and sinners' which has a sweeping chorus and a tribal/blues feel to it, while still giving Sully a focus for his lion-roar vocals.and 'devils swing' which is a fast paced, angry tune that gives Sully a new range of vocals, being both fast, angry and rythmic. the album closes in true Godsmack style with 'the Oracle', a tribal inspired mellow song that features heady rythms and thoughtful lyrics.
Its fair to say that every song on this album is brilliant and worth buying. my only criticism of the album is that there are not many solos or riffs for Tony to jam to, which is a shame, considering their last few albums featured melodic solos.
Overall this is well worth the purchase. the music of Godsmack is less pure metal now and more hard roack, with hints of Metallica throughout. an excellent purchase, an excellent album.
