This is the complete Series 1 - 8 from the Onedin Lines. The Series is now cpmpleted!!! Import from The Netherlands, which plays in English. The exciting saga of ambitious men tempestuous women and stormy seas! Set in England in the 1860s when British naval strength was the envy of Europe this saga charts the fortunes of an ambitious clever and determined ship owner whose private life is more tempestuous than the seas he sails. James Onedin (Peter Gilmore) is the son of a waterside shopkeeper who has died and left him with no inheritance. All James has is a legacy of 25 franks and a shrewd business mind. Despite his scheming sister and her husband who run a rival shipping company he is resolute in his attempt to start a shipping line in a changing world. Onedin is ruthless but farsighted and with steam a possibility for the future he swiftly embarks on his rise from impoverished seaman to wealthy ship owner and founder of The Onedin Line.

This series is imported from Amsterdam. The DVD jackets are in Dutch; but the soundtrack is the original English with Dutch sub-titles. The disc menu is in Dutch and it takes a little guesswork to figure out episode/scene selection. In order to remove the Dutch sub-titles use your DVD remote control. The quality is acceptable for such an old series.

I used to watch this as a teenager with my Dad in the 1970's (an Ex RN officer) as we both loved the ships they used in the series. This was not the only enjoyment as this series takes you to a very different time in British history and all it's culture, issues and troubles of that time

The standard of the "props" (if you can call some of these beautiful ships as such) are excellent and add to the atmosphere of the eight series filmed. There is an original one-off BBC Drama Playhouse production transmitted on 7 December 1970, it was announced in September 2010 that the recording - previously lost - was discovered in the American Library of Congress.

For further information I have added a Wikipedia link below which may encourage you further. Enjoy.

It's a most enjoyable series, which was my reason for buying it.

The quality of the recordings is good. It is in English. But to find your way around the menu, a knowledge of Dutch, or at least German, might help. But there's always Google Translate for definitions.

I had viewed this series some years ago and found it to be authentic in its coverage of shipping and the development of steam ships and marine Insurance. However, I was disappointed in the quality of the DVDs.

The ship itself was great. But when I got to series three the region code changed and was not able to watch the rest of it. Needed to purchase a second DVD player that was regionless. For the cost of the product I was surprised this happen. Ended up being a costly affair.

This is without doubt the greatest TV Drama series ever to be on TV,thank goodness for the Dutch, who have done this complete eight series on DVD they have good taste in drama, dont be bothered about the Dutch subtittles they can be taken off the screen easy."The Onedin Line" is so gripping to watch that since owning this series on DVD i have watched it through twice. Anyone who has an interest in the big tea clipper ships and those last days of sail must see this series.Of all the 1970s dramas,(and there are a lot of very good ones)this is the greatest of them all.If you are thinking about buying "The Onedin Line" you will not be disapointed. And beleive me, you will want the complete eight series. It is expensive, but this Drama will give you hours of enjoyment.I know it has me.

this series I saw many years ago on TV and I could only see the 1st season. After many years of waiting I could get the entire series. It's one of my favorites, is very intense. I have to mention the wonderful soundtrack. I love

My collection arrived on time and first-class order.

Although the collecton was made for the Dutch market, all DVDs are spoken in English (original BBC soundtrack) with Dutch subtitles. There are no English subtitles.

Picture quality (good and clean) is up to the usual standard of BBC productions for the era.
