Does what it says on the tin. Very simple, straightforward, and practical. I started implementing the system - using downloads from the accompanying website - before I'd finished reading the book. I reckon it's saved me a lot of toil and possibly expense on software too. I intend using it as my main project management tool from now on.

Lots of padding 7 Feb 2010

The actual technique looks quite useful for reporting progress on a relatively simple project. But you could probably work out how to use it yourself from the website without buying the book. The book isn't going to teach an experienced project manager anything, nor is it much use as a beginner's guide to project management.

Only a few hours of reading will get you through this little gem. Free downloadable spreadsheet supplied.
Provides THE best and most concise reporting structure to take to those meetings where management ask complex questions about project status, but expect two sentence answers.
This is the book's aim and it fulfills it in spades.

The spreadsheet is filled out monthly and with a little training in reading it you get a summary of: Objectives linked to tasks; Status of objectives complete; Tasks linked to people responsible; Tasks listed roughly as Gantt format; Status of tasks complete; Subjective (not objective) project requirements and their status; Budgeted and expended costs. And a few lines reserved for inserting comments on why things might not be running to cost or schedule.
Brilliant.
