Book Description

31 Jan 2005
It all starts with a shiny, red, sit-on lawnmower. When Nancy spies her Christmas present from her husband sitting on the lawn, she realises the jewellery she thought was for her must be sitting on someone else. Her best friend Carmen isn't surprised (she never liked Jonathan) and persuades Nancy to leave Edinburgh and come and stay in her luxury London flat - far too vast for Carmen since her husband, millionaire rock star Spike Todd, died. Soon Nancy's met gorgeous Connor O'Shea, who lives next door, and his daughter Mia is matchmaking - not least because she'd like to see the back of Connor's current pushy girlfriend. Meanwhile Carmen, who's always been certain she doesn't want another man in her life, feels a spark when a handsome charity worker called Joe calls round. But Joe's not quite all he seems...

More About the Author

Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time.
Actually that's not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet Tweeting and marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she's completely run out of displacement activities does she actually write.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Read 12 Jun 2006
By Ellie
Format:Paperback
Another fantastic read from Jill Mansell, her 16th book - The One You Really Want - is a real treat to read from start to finish. If you love one of her books, you will love them all. With fantastic, charming characters that you grow to love, and true to life situations, you won't be able to put the book down.

Main character Nancy is surprised and confused when she discovers her Christmas present - a sit on lawn mower - from her husband, especially as she found the receipt for some expensive jewellery in the post! The book is full of surprises and fun as you read about her struggles to get life back to normal. With two smaller stories running alongside Nancy's you can't fail to enjoy it! It is a fabulous girly, light read. So if you like a romantic but humorous read that will keep you wanting more, this is definitely the one for you!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful surprise 23 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
I ummmmmed and aaaaahed over buying this book for ages, lost count of the number of times I picked it up and put it down, eventually decided to buy it and then stuck it on the book shelf where it has been overlooked numerous times for something else. As I'm going on holiday this weekend and need a book to take a long I thought I would read a few pages of it to see if I liked it, well I cant put it down. I love it! I love all the characters already. Haven't even finished the book yet and I'm writing this review. I was under the impression that this book was aimed at readers older than me, not sure where I got that from, but I was wrong. I love the writing style; it's so light and enjoyable. I am going out tonight to purchase another Jill Mansell book to take on holiday, as think I will have finished this one by then!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Chuckle! 29 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
This is a good holiday / chick lit read! Its a good book worthy of four stars, not quite five. It's easy to read and good fun. Am really starting to get into Jill Mansell books and would recommend it is an easy "escape" kind of a book. The last page had me chuckling for quite a while!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read! 21 Aug 2005
By Atheana
Format:Paperback
As another reviewer said, if you're already a Jill Mansell fan, then The One You Really Want won't disappoint. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because at times I found the book a bit confusing in that the writing style jumps from scene to scene with different characters at different stages in their lives. I had to keep reminding myself who was who! But that aside, it's a good read and JM fans will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance with a twist 20 Mar 2005
By Vivian
Format:Paperback
"The One You Really Want" is a must read for romance lovers. I just love a romance that combines comedy in the romance. The story and characters draw you in and entertain you. Another thing about this that I liked is that the story was good. Not all romance writers care about the story making sense but this one does. I highly recommend it, along with a few other very good books I have read including "Bedtime Stories for Women" by Nancy Madore and "Hot Stuff" by Elaine Fox.
