Quite effective for a low budget TV piece. Certainly very different from the other British TV movie about this incident, and portrays Ryan as very much an outsider compared with the rest of the group. Not sure about McNabs portrayal, which comes across as rather negative. Some of the action sequences do show snippets of the style that would be more obvious in Mr Greengrass's later films

This 'film' is not as Chris Ryan intended and has since appologised in the newly revised version of 'The one that got away'. The makers took what parts of the story they liked, and disregarded what they didn't. Anyone really wanting to know this story, should read the book as it is a more reliable account of Chris Ryan's escape in Iraq.

I read the book The One That Got Away about 3 years ago. I just saw this film based on that book and I really enjoyed it. I felt it was more realistic than the equally enjoyable Bravo Two Zero film. This film is shot like a documentary and it adds a sense of realism to the production. It's not as flashy or action-packed as Bravo Two Zero, but it is much more powerful. The acting as well as music is top notch. It's ashame that no Americans can view this great film as it is not available in the states on ANY format. I have a Dutch region 2 dvd, that's how I saw it. As far as the controversy between the film and Chris Ryan's novel, let it go. Movies have and always will add elements to entertain the audience. The book is basically about Ryan's survival in Iraq for several days. This movie covers the entire platoon as well as Ryan's escape. Both this move and Bravo Two Zero have a proud place on my shelf alongside Black Hawk Down, Saints & Soldiers, Come And See, The Thin Red Line and Saving Private Ryan.....

disappointed
only saw about 5mins. of this dvd and the sound was so bad you could not hear a word of what they were saying pity as I am following the stories of bravo two zero to see if there... Read more

The 1 that got away
unfortunately the sound was not great on my copy and was forced to have volume up full tilt to hear, shame excellent version of Bravo 2 zero mission

not as good as bravo two zero
this film had a good storyline but the actual film wasn't as entertaining as bravo 2 zero which obviously had a bigger budget as the star sean bean is a well known actor. Read more

The best post WWII film
This is the best post WWII film I have seen.
It tells the strangth of SAS and weakness of a human.
