First a confession: I haven't yet bought this CD, but I did see Muntu in concert at the Reading Hexagon last night as support to Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and he was excellent. He sang at least 6 songs from this album, and all were impressive.
In a world filled with mass produced, manufactured boy bands and 'talent' (I use this word loosely)show winners with little talent, Muntu is a breath of fresh air and originality. His songs, sung in his native Cameroon tounge, are strong and powerful, with a raw emotional and heartfelt appeal that set African music aside from the mainstream.
His voice, along with great guitar and harmonica, are further enhanced by sound boxes, which add to the complexity and rhythms of the music. If you like the beat and power of African music, Muntu will not fail to impress your tastes.
Muntu is a real character, with a most engauging style of delivery: he deserves to make it big here in the UK, were he now lives. If his performance last night was anything to go by, he will soon have an army of fans around the world.
