Product Description

Revived in 1896 by the prompting of Baron de Coubertin, the Olympic Games have become the largest sporting occasion in the world. From a nine sport Olympiad attracting 241 athletes, the Games have grown into a 28 sport spectacular attracting over 10,000 competitors. From Spiridon Louis triumph in the first marathon to Mark Spitz and Carl Lewis multi-medal efforts, this is the ultimate history of more than one hundred years of sporting endeavours. A fascinating documentary detailing the history of the Olympic Games from their origin to the present day.

This DVD does contain some interesting footage, mainly of the news events around the time of each Olympics, (USA boycott in 1980, the USSR boycott in 1984 etc) but for actual sporting footage, Olympic or otherwise, than this DVD is poor. There is vertually no footage of sporting acheivments that people think of when they consider the Olympics.

The title suggests the DVD would be bursting with endless sporting moments, but regretabbly it is not. If you're after greart sporting moments, than this is a total non-starter, if you'd be interested in a snapshot of the politcal situation around the Olympics then maybe this would be worth a view, but it is only asnapshot for each Olympics, so that probably is a bit sparse as well.

Probably one to avoid on all fronts.

I must sadly admit that this was one of the most disappointing documentaries I have ever watched!! It doe not cover all the Olympics and the parts it did were poorly chosen and covered inadequately!! The quality of the film is also unbelievably poor - not just the black and white of the old Olympics but even those as recently as 1980 and onwards.
