"'Move over Jilly Cooper, your heir is apparent' - Time Out" --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Dreamy, scatty and impossibly romantic, Polly McLaren is a secretary in an advertising agency, but the day a stranger on a train catches her eye, her life changes for ever. This American Romeo, who’s recognised her old school scarf, begs Polly to help him find his missing Juliet. Over an intoxicating dinner at the Savoy, Polly agrees to play Cupid – St Gertrude’s girls must, after all, stick together – and her investigations begin. The last thing she needs now is trouble from the men in her life...

...like Henry Lloyd Roberts – Polly’s madly attractive but infuriatingly elusive boyfriend. It’s he who goads her into turning detective – on the grounds that it might give her something to do for a change. Not to mention distract her from his own lustful pursuits...

...and Nick Penhalligan – Polly’s rude, arrogant and ridiculously demanding boss, who’s not best pleased that her mind is everywhere but on her job. But even he gets entangled when the old-girl network turns into a spider’s web of complications, deceit, and finally, love. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Hilarious 10 Jan 2004
By Miss C. L. Cole VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This book, although relatively old, was one that caught my eye sometime ago on a recommendations list by amazon. I put it in my wish list for Crimble and alas someone bought me it!
This is the first of Alliots i have read and it will not be the last! I am really impressed!
It begins with the lead character Polly playing her games on the way to work and from then on you just cannot stop laughing, the story goes on to tell of her past present and "what SHE thinks is going to be" her future. The characters Alliot has invented are so loveable, even the "villains", such as her "boyfriend" Harry and her boss Nick. Polly is forever daydreaming about one thing or another and this is where her personality shows itself! The endless twists and turns she takes are what makes the story! A most memorable character who will leave you awake laughing until the early hours definately worth a read!

The Old-girl network is a fast and funny read, ideal for the beach or lounging around the garden on a sunny day. It's light and undemanding, but that doesn't mean you have to switch off your brain. The plot is complicated enough to keep your interest, the heroine isn't so dim or the hero such a macho bore that you lose interest in whether they get together or not. In short, it's a modern, witty romance that - in parts - had me laughing out loud. I'd recommend it, and look forward to reading more of Catherine Alliott's books.

Best read ever 11 April 2002
Format:Paperback
I first picked up the book in my local library in Perth Western Australia. I laughed from start to finish, as the story has an interesting plot it made for really excellent reading. I have since bought the book and all other titles of Catherines. I have also got many of my aussie friends interested too. Must read. Please write more.

Good - and bad
The good thing about this book is that, like all the Alliott's I've read, it has a really strong and unusual plot line that kept me on my toes throughout. Read more

rather disapointing!
I understand that this book was written over 15 years ago, but it is definately not the type of book that ages well...unless the reader is a very imature 16 year old. Read more
