I, like many avid viewers of the office, have seen every episode of seasons 1-7 at least 2 or 3 times (Yes I really am THAT sad) so I like to think that my opinion is a little more valid than those whose have just caught an episode or two.
I absoloutely love the show right from the pilot episode of season 1 however I feel a little disappointed to say the least in season 6 especially in the first half.
The first problem I found instantly is that the warmth of the series seems to be quickly disappearing. The thing I enjoyed the most about the show was how kind and happy the whole office felt and I loved seeing the different personalities of everyone in there from Phyllis' mother attitude to Angela's sterness I liked it all. However in this series right from the start every character's darker, meaner side is brought out and I found myself really disliking most of the characters for many episodes.
The second fault is when *SPOILER* the Sabre company take over. This was a poor move as the main attraction of the office was the people not the company Dunder Mifflin, I really liked it when Jan or David would appear as they were very funny unique and well acted roles; but they are replaced with a very unlikable CEO Jo Bennett. As for the new character 'gabe' I hate him; he has no likeablilty and is a very shallow and undevelloped character who does not fit in witht the tight dynamic of the show, he is a very poorly written Toby.
Also any fun and quirkiness between Jim and Pam is all gone and they have sadly also become unenjoyable characters, with Jim really being mean for a few episodes with little to no comic relief, also there are almost no pranks on Dwight that gave the show its hilarity.
Finally the uniqueness of the office was how its cameras were used, up until season 6 they played the most important role by choosing what you saw and cleverly zooming in on small things in the background to give the audience an insight, eg. Pam's ringless finger at the start of season 3 and Dwight and Angela's affair. However now they simply film like any other sit-com, especially the wedding episode which just went all out and as 'Hollywood' as possible, a very poor effort indeed.
Then again don't get me wrong the episodes are OK but just not up to scratch until a few episodes after the baby is born as the Hollywood side of the show goes back to the show we all once loved.
Worth a viewing to decide for yourself.
