3.0 out of 5 stars not quite the same as the tv series 11 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My 4 year old son aboslutely loves the Octonauts on cbeebies so I thought the books would be a big hit. He does like them but be warned - while the art work in the tv series is based on the art work in the books, so they look the same, the plots of the books are quite weird whereas the tv series has more of an educational component (learning a few nature facts). Basically the books feature made-up creatures not real ones. Also, one of the characters has a different name in the books (Sauci instead of Dashi) but that's just a minor point. I think the best book is the newest one, the Octonauts and the Frown Fish. If your kid loves octonauts then do give them a try, they are quite fun, just be prepared for some wacky stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful picture book 31 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
My son loves the TV series Octonauts, but to me it smacks of cheap computer animation and stilted fact-ion stories. The original Meomi books then came as a huge suprise to me. The illustrations are simply amazing, any page taken at random, has mountains of little visual flourishes, jokes for the adult reader and pictorial side stories. The main stories are subtley moralistic (not in an explicit way, but they plant some seeds for young children to question perceptions about others and how different does not necessarily mean bad or wrong). The stories are pure fiction unlike the natural world-lite stuff peddled by the TV show, which I guess could be disappointing for a devotee, but only a stone hearted documentry-o-centric person could fail to love these books. Buy it now!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Wait for books based on the tv series 17 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this for my 3 year old for Christmas as he is a huge fan of the Octonauts. The illustration of the book is fantastic, but the story line is very odd, and over-complicated. Of course my son still loves it, but I avoid having to read it at bedtime! I would recommend waiting for books based on the tv series to be released if you are considering buying this for a pre-schooler.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok
Good book to read, but some of the words are harder to read for the children's age the book is aimed at,
Stories are good though, my son enjoyed them.
