Book Description

29 Mar 2011
Do you ever wonder why you keep doing things you know you shouldn't? Does life sometimes feel like one constant battle between what you know you should do and what you actually end up doing? The Obedience Option directs us to Paul's letter to the Ephesians to discover an 'overwhelming faith' - a life dominating conviction that what God has for us through obedience is vastly better than anything this world has to offer. In this state a passion for God and his ways overwhelms everything else. Following God's commands becomes our joy and our lives become a consistent witness to Christ in a world that so desperately needs him.

Review

Conventional wisdom in this pragmatic age of ours insists that it's always easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. Scripture says almost the exact opposite: To obey is better than sacrifice' (1 Sam. 15:22). David Hegg has written this very helpful book to show why obedience to God is always the best of all our choices. Carefully, skillfully tracing the theme through several passages of Scripture, he shows why obedience is not merely our duty; it can also be our delight. Easy to read and yet thought provoking, this is a fine book on a supremely important topic.' --John MacArthur, Pastor, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, California

Written in a personal style, the reader will gain good lessons on how to obey God through His Word. Especially valuable for new believers and those seeking a basic primer on the basics of sanctification. --CBA Magazine

In The Obedience Option , David Hegg has given us a very helpful manual on biblical sanctification. The real challenge of holiness amidst this wicked world is here addressed admirably, providing the Christian with solid direction, wise counsel, and encouraging hope. If you're looking for a clear answer as to why you sin and yet why you should vigorously resist it, this book is for you! Read it with much spiritual profit. You'll be glad you did. --Lance Quinn, Pastor-Teacher, The Bible Church of Little Rock, Little Rock, Arkansas

3.0 out of 5 stars Makes 'obey' a good four-letter word. 7 Dec 2012
By Jeff Stebbins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My main gripe about this book is that Hegg is almost, almost, ALMOST there... In my opinion (and experience) the best reason to obey God's word is not because I want to be righteous, but because I want GOD. GOD Himself. HE is the 'goodest' part of the Good News. Heaven, joy, peace, righteousness--those are all side benefits. No, there's nothing wrong with (as he recommends on p. 138) pursuing righteousness. Jesus tells us to pursue it. But, that's not our highest pursuit, our deepest joy. To me, pursuing righteousness feels something like trying to be a good husband. I don't get married because I want to be a good husband; rather, I marry someone because I want HER--she's the whole point! As I see it, the best motivation for obedience is GOD Himself--knowing, delighting in, and eventually seeing Him (Ps 27:4, Rev 22:4)--because ONLY HE truly satisfies. Still, this a very good book to have for its main point: sin sucks. It never delivers what it promises, but GOD always does.

5.0 out of 5 stars clear and compelling 20 Mar 2011
By S. Adams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A convincing articulaton of motivational sanctification, in that biblical truth always motivates, liberates and is future-oriented. The past counts but only as fuel for the future. God's promises drain the life and appeal from sin's promises so that obedience increasingly becomes the best option. This book was practial and powerful.
4.0 out of 5 stars Obedience is better! 8 Feb 2014
By Yehoshua - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"...all God has for me through obedience is better by far than anything the world or Satan can offer me through selfishness and sin."

Author David Hegg repeats this claim often throughout this book, and he has done an excellent job defending it. Truly, obedience to God is far better! Yet we *want* to disobey (he defends this claim as well). So how do we respond to our desire to sin and the truth that obedience to God is better? Well, read the book. :-)
5.0 out of 5 stars A Must read for Christians 15 Jan 2014
By Rick Brady - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Faith is believing that what God has for you through obedience is better than what the world has to offer through sin and selfishness (My paraphrase). This is the theme of the book, and David Hegg presents these truths in a great way.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great 31 Dec 2012
By Jeannie K Heystek - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Excellent theological insight into why we choose to sin rather than obey, however, It just kept saying the same things over and over. Good writer though. I would definitely reAd more from Jeff.
