I'm so glad I came across this lovely story, a modern parable, that is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.

The analogy is drawn between a mighty oak tree growing from a tiny acorn, and growing into being the very best person you can be, that is, the person that God made you to be, and I love reading it at bedtime to my grandchildren.

Thank you Max Lucardo for a lovely story.

Used this in an assembly to link to Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. Worked really well. Little too much packaging for a picture book - huge box filled with plastic bubbles!

I bought this book for my grandson, but had to modify it when I got towards the end and found that it was talking about leaving home for the first time. I altered it to 'going to school, Beavers' etc for the first time on his own.

I read this to our two boys at bedtime for the first time. I found the story very sad in that the acorn was taken away from its mother.. the oak..

The next morning my youngest was sadly asking about the mummy of the acorn... and why didn't he see his mother ever again...?? :( Sadly will not reading it to them again, separation of child from a mother forever is too painful for children ...

This book is worthy of limitless re-reads & appeals to a wide age range of children.
It is thoughtful, without being sentimental; and emphasises how special & full of purpose each individual is.
