5.0 out of 5 stars Book 3 in the Atlantis series 11 Feb 2007
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
While a standard male nymph can have every woman in his presence panting for him in minutes; Valerian, King of the Nymphs can have them on their knees begging for him in seconds, his potent sexual allure irresistible to females of all races in Atlantis. Yet a nymph has one weakness; without regular sex he will fade and weaken, no matter how mighty a warrior he may be. Under normal circumstances a lack of female attention would not be a problem; however their own women have disappeared and others hide from them, unwilling to be placed under the sexual compulsion of a nymph. Having conquered a dragon palace, Valerian requires his men strong to defend the first home the wandering nymphs have ever held, and to replenish their strength they need women. Breaking strict Atlantean law by using the dragon's portal to enter the surface world, Valerian and his warriors plan to steal human females to appease their sexual needs.

Cynical Shaye Holling is attending her mother's 6th wedding when a group of hunky underdressed and absolutely gorgeous men rise from the sea and gatecrash the party. Pretty much every woman present (including her mother) appears under some sort of sexual spell, and all the single women present merrily follow these men into the sea, except Shaye and another woman named Brenna. Unfortunately Shaye doesn't have a chance. The moment Valerian catches sight of her he knows she is his destined mate; as the only woman he will forsake all others for, Valerian has no intention of returning to Atlantis without her. Forgotten are his thoughts of never wanting to find his mate and assuming one woman could never satisfy him for more than one night; however Shaye appears immune to both his potent looks and alluring Nymph fragrance. For the first time ever, Valerian finds himself having to woo a woman unprepared to swoon at his feet as all others have done.

I wasn't sure I would like Valerian, after all how arrogant can you get faced with every female you ever met never saying no and women hanging off you like leeches, desperate for your slightest attention? Luckily Valerian slowly begins to realise that he wants to get to know Shaye and earn her love, and not just use her to replenish his strength. Shaye in turn wants to believe that Valerian is totally committed to her, yet she's constantly running into women praising his sexual expertise. She may present a calm and cool demeanour; however she too is far from immune to Valerian and knows it is only a matter of time before she succumbs to his sexual charm.

GS's 3rd foray into the world of Atlantis is as magical and exciting as its predecessors "Heart of the Dragon" and "Jewel of Atlantis". Again this author has produced a mesmerising romance with plenty of action, suspense and battles. With the assistance of the vampires, Valerian and his warriors are able to repel the dragons attack; yet a greater danger threatens when they find themselves facing the wrath of Poseidon for allowing humans to enter Atlantis. With an angry God intent on returning all the human women to the surface world with their memories of Atlantis erased, the chances of a successful relationship appear bleak.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Stars loved it 25 July 2010

Mirror mirror on the wall,The Nymph King is the hawtest of them all.
This book made me realise that there is simply no excuse for bad PNR books anymore.
*hint hint, nudge nudge - Hotter after Midnight author*
Nymph King was not only a good PNR book. It was a good book - period.
The characters were engaging, each and every one added to the plot of the story.
Shaye - strong willed and bossy, grade A pain in the ass for any leader
fierce like a growling kitten.
Valerian *sighs dreamily* I fell for you hook line and sinker Nymph king.
I enjoyed reading about the relationship between
Val and Shaye, the dynamics within the Nymph army and the ceatures of Atlantis.
Even Poseidon running amok, brought his annoying self to the table.
Well-done to Showalter, who had me turning the pages feverently at 2 in the morning, While secretly hoping there's no end to this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!! 15 Aug 2007

Considering I had never read a book by this author before and purchased on the spur of the moment - I was really impressed! I love mythology based stories and found this added a new twist on what I have previously read. I liked the characters and really got involved with the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes both romantic leads to have guts and real presence, whilst finding their way to each other. I have since ordered some other books by this author and I think after reading "The Nymph King" you will probably do the same.

If you enjoythis book then you may also enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyons Dark Hunter Series.

Happy Reading!
