While we were visiting friends and family in the UK recently, we had a LOT of long car journeys... I asked my Dad for this as a belated birthday present for my 17 month old daughter, and it's the best nursery rhymes CD I think I've ever heard! A bunch of "real" musicians got together to make a collection that also takes parents into consideration - my husband (bit of a traditionalist! ;D) took a few listens to warm up to it, but I loved it right away. My daughter adores it; we dance to it like maniacs and she asks for "More! More!" after every song!
There are rock versions of 'Humpty Dumpty' and 'My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean' (our favourite!), a neat segue from 'Ten Green Bottles' into 'Wind The Bobbin Up' and back again, a reggae influenced 'What Shall We Do With A Grumpy Pirate?', blues, soul, medieval madrigal, waltzes, riffs that sound distinctly like The Beatles' "Get Back', The Damned's 'Eloise'... just about every musical style you can think of. And it's divided into four sections - Dance, Play, Learn and Sleep. It's also nice to see a few songs that I haven't found on others CDs - I've sung 'Hush Little Baby' to her since she was born, but it's very rare to find it in a collection.
I regularly catch myself singing these versions - I really can't recommend it highly enough.
