Good Initial Fit 11 Oct 2011
Got these a year ago, and loved them straight out of the box. A great fit, the ergonomic footbed is very comfortable. Combined with the Vibram sole, these gave a lot of confidence when walking on loose surfaces.

Problems started to arise after about 8 months use, when one of the laces snapped. Trying to source a suitable replacement is a nightmare as these are a lot narrower than the standard lace. Eventually found some that fitted, but it took a while. Don't expect any help from TNF over this :-(

Then they started leaking. Now, I don't expect things to last forever, but surely a walking shoe should last more than 12 months before being replaced? I haven't been out Munro-bashing or any serious hiking, but the material around the toes started to break up, and coming away from the sole. Emails were sent to TNF asking about guarantee periods and coverage, but as with sourcing replacement laces, the reply was a deafening silence.

My walking shoes normally last me around 3-4 years before being despatched to the great path in the sky, these are finished after 14 months.

In short, get these if you normally replace your shoes every year, otherwise they are an expensive hiking shoe. TNF went down a long way in my estimations following this purchase.

I have had a pair of these for several years now and they have been the most comfortable walking shoes that I have had - despite trying similar offers from Salomon and Merrell. So it's very pleasing to see these on Amazon and I am just about to order another pair.

I have found them to be completely waterproof throughout, in damp and muddy conditions - although I have never tried putting my feet in a lake or pond, for example. I find the soles to give tremendous grip, although now they are wearing away slightly, which is why I am looking to buy another pair.

Given the amount of use they have had, I think they have lasted very well and although slightly stiff to start with, they have become incredibly comfortable over the years.

The only other slight problem I had was that the laces broke on one of the shoes, but I was able to get a replacement with generic mountain boot laces from Blacks and so was able to keep using them and have been very happy with the use I have got out of them.

I think these are good all-rounders and while I still have proper leather boots for long distances and hilly conditions, these are suitable for most outdoor uses and they have ended up getting the most use in my walks around the Sussex countryside and further afield.

Excellent 3 May 2010

I've been really happy with these shoes. I had several pairs of Merrells and eventually bought an unsucessful pair (the insole was just rubbish and I regretted buying them from day one) so I figured it was time for a change.

These shoes are less forgiving than the Merrells, and feel quite hard, and the laces seem to need tying up every now and then, but the upside is that they are extremely comfortable when you get the correct lace tightness, and the Vibram soles are massively grippy. I feel like my footing is very precise in these shoes. And I like the way they look.
