Product Description

Product Description

The Norseman is the first volume of the vividly-detailed historical chronicles of Halldorr, an orphan whose entire desire was to lay beside both a warm hearth and a plump wife, but fate had another thread to spin. Instead, he found himself exiled, resigned to a life of raiding, killing for plunder and survival. He became bodyguard to a king, brutally fighting in monumental battles - Maldon and Swoldr - to be handed down for centuries in skaldic verse.

Because of a blood-oath made years before the murder of his father, Halldorr was adopted by an exile, Greenland’s discoverer, Erik the Red. Halldorr believes his life is his to command when Freydis, the fierce, fire-haired enchantress, at last desires to be his wife. However, destiny strikes, forcing him to flee from Greenland to Ireland to England to Norway without her. He fights his way to wealth and in an epic battle, defending his king against overwhelming odds, he finds that it was not destiny, but betrayal that sent him into banishment thirteen years earlier.

More About the Author

Jason Born is the author of The Wald Chronicles, a research-intensive set of historical novels detailing the Germanic tribesmen and their struggle against and improbable triumph over Rome. All three books in the series - The Wald, Wald Afire, & Wald Vengeance - are available now. He is also the author of The Norseman Chronicles, a scrupulously researched set of historical novels telling the story of the Viking, Halldorr, who simply desired a warm hearth and a plump wife, but found that fate gave him so much more.

Jason lives with his own plump wife and three skinny children in Ohio. By day he works as an analyst and portfolio manager for a private Registered Investment Advisory firm. After dinner and on weekends he reads voraciously and makes time to write, which has become a maniacal obsession. He is currently hard at work writing his seventh historical novel.

I really enjoyed reading this novel, It is entertaining and I was really interested in seeing what happend the Halldorr. So much so, that I purchased books 2 & 3 as I started the last chapter of book 1. In all the Norsman Chronicles are well worth the Kindle price, and would be keen the read other novels along the same lines by Jason Born.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping 6 Jun 2014

When I read at the introduction that the author was inspired by Bernard Cornwell I looked forward to starting this book. I was not disappointed with the beginning of this trilogy. After being unfairly accused and banished our hero starts on the life of an adventurer gaining a wealth and reputation along the way. After sweeping all before them away and wander into a trap and lucky escape with lives if not their egos.

Really enjoyed this book. The author had clearly done a lot of research on the subject and then created a tale of likeable characters and brought it all to life.

I am now looking to buy the next books in the series.

A very good story well told the battle scenes were well described and not overly graphic but bloody enough to fit the period was easy to become immersed in this book.
