Three superb plays by a great Playwright. Perhaps a little dated, but still full of, often, painfully funny truths. I'm from more of a working-class background myself, but still care about this set of characters, who are all firmly middle-class. The comedy is truly masterful and inspired, whilst underneath it all lies a far darker subtext. And this, I feel, is where the plays really stand out...the skilful blending of both light and dark tones.
I confess to never having seen these productions on the stage, but I've seen the TV adaptations (probably inferior to a staged production, but pretty solid nevertheless). Thoroughly enjoyed reading them however.
This particular publication is fine...no overblown introductions or production notes. I assume they are printed as the author intended. It also contains, for anybody who may interested, the diagrams of the sets as well as Furniture and Property lists, Lighting and Effects Plots, also for each. Simple and clean publication, easy to read.
