Product Description

Product Description

An Aegean island in summer. A driver pulls into a garden to answer his phone. Hidden among the olive trees Anna is listening as a slightly familiar voice delivers an order to kill. Shelving her pursuit of the Greek idyll she is drawn into a sequence of events and encounters which lead her, by way of rogue icons and wayward antiquities, to other islands, before returning her to her own deep past on this one, the start, and still the source, of everything. Rich in the atmosphere of contemporary Greek island life, Deirdre Chapman's tense literary thriller is a must read this summer.

About the Author

Deirdre Chapman is a journalist and short story writer, occasional reviewer and travel writer, and contributor to several books on writing and place. Born on the east coast of Scotland, she now divides her year between the city of Glasgow and a house on a Greek island.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good holiday mystery read 24 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This present day mystery, involving antiquities, is set on a fictitious Greek Island in the Cyclades group. I bought this, despite no reviews to go off, to read on a holiday to Mykonos because I enjoy reading books set in the holiday areas I am visiting. The author has a thorough knowledge of the Islands, Greek life, it's history and mythology. The story features the islands of Mykonos, Delos, Tinos and Naxos with some references to Athens and Santorini. It was a pleasant read which broadened my vocabulary thanks to the Kindle dictionary!

If you are looking for a book set on Santorini I would recommend "Since i don't have you" by Louise Candlish

4.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner 31 Aug 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book specifically to read while on holiday on a Greek Island. I loved it! A real page turner. The author obviously has an extensive knowledge of the Greek Islands, life and inhabitants. If you have ever spent time in Greece you will certainly appreciate this book. Read it when you are back in the UK and all your holiday memories will flood back!
Antiquities, Greek life, will they won't they, intrigue - what more do you want in a novel!

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer reading 10 Jun 2014
Format:Paperback
The book successfully evokes the atmosphere and mix of population on a Greek island, its light, its beauty, and as background the seedy goings-on of its local as well as foreign inhabitants. It is a great holiday read, an absorbing page turner, with exciting action and new revelations with each paragraph, and most laudably a literary presentation in a racy journalistic style which is very appealing in this novel of strong sunlight flickering on the Aegean Sea.
