The night warriors return in this, the fifth installment in the series and although not the best its still, in my opinion a good book.
Anyone unfamiliar with the night warriors should know, to put it simply are people chosen by a divine force to battle the presences of evil that lurk inside peoples dreams and nightmares.
This one concerns itself with albrechts travelling circus and freak show which has been trapped inside the world of nightmares for over 800 years, but a serial killer has arrived on the scene and has found a way of bringing it back to the waking world, and therefore it is the night warriors duty to stop this happening.
If you are familiar with the night warriors series the usual elements are here, the unusual murders and springer the messenger who recruits the night warriors.
This book, as with all the night warriors books, is an easy read and flows very well and where in my opinion its a great story where it lets itself down a bit is, unlike the first 3 in the series you dont feel the same warmth and depth to the characters, which was also a downside to the fourth book night wars.
That aside I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to masterton fans. Very enjoyable

I have to state that I am a fan of Graham Masteron, but love the Night Warriors series. The first 3 volumes were creative, exciting and provocative, the forth Night Wars seemed to lose it's edge a bit with the under development of its charaters, and this editon is i'm sorry to say is worse.

John the very overweight cabbie, who I was lead to beleive, that following his Night Worrior experiance was a person who had also conquered his own demons, had the girl and was on his way back home deep south. No still the same, and when he meets Springer again his attitude is one of rater been flayed alive rather meeting "him" again

I felt that Graham Masteron really pushed to boat out with the night warrior xyrena whose ability to make anything alive fall over in heels in lust, so that whatever it is will just want to touch her and be killed.

The storyline of the circus was good however and parts of the story do keep you intrested, but was really makes this a loss is the ending, it's so abserd, unbeleivable it spoils everything else,

I "Man" punished by God, then futher mutilated by man, gets salvation through lust and is redeemed not only in deamland but- well I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.
This editon of the series will not be part of my collection of Night Warrior books as it does not deserve to be beside them.

After a long break Masterton has turned in another entry in the Night Warriors saga. The original was published in 1986 (Night Warriors) and that one had me hooked - what a fascinating premise for a novel, people who, in the land of dreams and nightmares, can take on the personae of warriors to defend the world from demons and the like who are trying to enter the living world. Death Dream (1988) and Night Plague (1991) both followed fairly quickly and then there was a huge gap until Night Wars (2006) and now Masterton has brought forth another Night Warriors story, and I was looking forward to it immensely. Having got the book I devoured it in very short order (less than three days) and I am hungering for more already. Although it doesn't quite feel as well fleshed as his previous novels in the series the power of the idea was still strong, the plot was convincingly put together and the action was as breathtaking as ever.

Although the characters were a tad quickly introduced and recruited I was still very aware of each and their roles, even to the point that in the last battle dream they went into I was aware that An-Gryferai (sometimes misspelt as An-Gryferia in my copy) although present in the dreamscape wasn't present as the Night Warriors went in through the portal. However this is just a minor point and more likely a printing error rather than a writing error on Masterton's part. Having Dom Magator from the previous novel was a good link and although another reviewer of the book has condemned the idea of the Warrior Xyrena, the Passion Warrior as a crude usage of the idea a man is controlled by his penis, I felt her character as both waking Rhodajane and dream Xyrena was skilful and clever, just as each of the other Night Warriors characters that have appeared over the past four novels in the series has been cleverly crafted and used.

Having been an avid novel reader I have been wading through the second Twilight novel for more than a year and yet this I completed in less than three days, which can only suggest to me that it was another book from Masterton which will be read again and again. Perhaps now I should read the pentology in sequence again, something I did when Night Wars was due out and I read the three previous novels before it was released.

I can only hope that there will be further Night Warrior stories from Masterton's pen in the coming years as they are a clever idea and all five have been a riveting read.
