Sister Agnes is trying to decide whether the time is right to take her final vows when her friend and mentor Father Julius is disturbed by the appearance of someone from his past. Then an apparent accident which could be murder attracts her attention. She also has two novice nuns to oversee who seem to be getting themselves into hot water. Put all this together with a homeless illegal immigrant who refuses to speak, a statue of the Virgin Mary which apparently weeps real tears and financial shenanigans involving various characters and another murder which might have been an accident and Agnes has her work cut out. A satisfyingly complex mystery with three dimensional main characters.
