Product Description

When an unidentified female body is discovered laid out on a slab in an abandoned butcher's shop, the cause of death is unclear. Her body bares no marks; except for the fact that her lips have been carefully stitched shut. It is only when the full autopsy gets underway at the Los Angeles County morgue that the pathologist will reveal the true horror of the situation - a discovery so devastating that Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Homicide Special Section has to be pulled off a different case to take over the investigation. But when his inquiry collides with a missing persons' case being investigated by the razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer with a warped obsession, a stalker for whom love has become hate.

I've read both of Chris Carter's previous books (entitled 'The Executioner' and 'The Crucifix Killer') and although I was very much looking forward to reading The Night Stalker, I wondered how it could possibly top the other 2 books. As a Psychologist myself (with an avid interest in the minds and workings of serial killers) I have to say it takes alot to thrill, shock and intrigue me simultaneously. Well, Chris thank you so much....I had the best 3 days reading your book - only taking breaks for food and sleep;-) I can't wait for the next novel as it is true what another reviewer on Amazon has pointed out - we are told very little about Hunter this time and I'm intrigued to find out more about his former love interest. Chris your written work (both in terms of writing style and story telling ability) is truly exceptional!

Only one minor criticism I would like to point out: I felt Garcia was constantly chasing Hunter's coat-tails, that is to say, he always had his 'lightbulb' moment seconds or minutes after Hunter had worked something out...which gave his slower realisations an almost comedic feel....kind of like in Laurel and Hardy where the former is constantly left scratching his head.....this makes Garcia look a little dumb.....he should occasionally have been made to be the one who brainstormed his way through a problem without the aid of Hunter.

To conclude, I CANNOT wait for the next stage of the story with this dynamic duo:-)

Good one Chris 27 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book is different from the first two. It's much darker and sinister. You start the story with a unexpected turn followed by more and more unexpeted and unpleasent turns. The story is well paced and you find out more about Robert Hunter as the story develops. For the first time I did not read this in one go, but kept returning. I still found that I could not wait to read the next chapter. Another great story from Chris. This series just gets better and better. I wonder where Chris will take us next time.

After reading the first short chapter of this book, i shut it, took a deep breath and said "this going to be one hell of a ride". and it was.
After reading Chris Carters other books i could not wait for this to come out. It follows the same detectives on another riviting story trying to track down a serial killer. Chris Carter writes in a way that has you turning the page over and over again. The book is full of very short chapters and lots of them, however, each chapter leaves you needing to find out what the hell is going to happen next.
I always judge a book by the speed in which i read the text, sometimes i just strool through the book and come out at the end slightly satisfied. Chris Carter makes me read fast, very fast. Always two fingers inside the next two pages ready to turn. The other two books by Chris Carter are excellent and every time i read one of his books i tell myself the next cant possibly be as good and it never fails to deliver. The Night Stalker is by far the best book out of the three. I love the way that you get pulled into the book right from the start and how Chris makes sure that you stay right where he wants you, transfixed, completley entertained and glued in between the pages of the book.
Chris Carter is a master of modern crime/thriller fiction and quite simply this book is Chris's best work and to be frank and honest it is the best most powerfull thrilling and entertaining book i have ever read. If you like crime/detective thrillers of the serial killer kind you need to read this book. I can say without a shadow of doubt it will have you leave you drooling for more. A fantastic and brilliant page turner that keeps you turning and turning and turning right from the first page. I understand that there is another book by Chris Carter in the pipe line but it is going to be 12 months before i get my hands on it.

I love the night stalker and i cant wait for the next Chris Carter book.
