5.0 out of 5 stars Night my Number Came Up 13 April 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is one of those films that once you have seen it, you don't forget it. I was a teenager when it was released in 1955 but I found it just as intriguing today as I did then. I had been searching for this film for years and am delighted that it made it to DVD and that Amazon decided to stock it. Many of the actors were stars of the day, Michael Hordern, Michael Redgrave, Alexander Knox, Nigel Stock, Denmholm Elliot, even a cameo of Alfie Bass, and more. The film centres around a dream, and as the film progresses, each part of the dream begins to manifest itself. The film itself is a lovely piece of nostalgia - I hadn't realised a Dakota was so noisy! Thoroughly recommended to film buffs everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP FLIGHT 6 Aug 2010
Format:DVD
Well, this film is excellent and not to be missed by anyone who is enthusiastic about aircraft and top notch British actors. A great story that in fact, would appeal to many. I'd add that any movie featuring Victor Maddern is invariably worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grail territory 16 Oct 2010
By Zepfan

This wonderful black n' white film pulls no punches and will have all of a certain age gripping the arms of your seat in a buttock-clenching white knuckle ride as you are plunged into the terror of premonition made flesh... If you are afraid of flying then this is definately not for you....
Long awaited; lovers of 'Dead of Night' will find this classic Britflick too good too miss.
If only I could find the british b&w portmanteau film where a man sees a painting in a gallery with a light in the window..now that would be real horrorshow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crippling The Mind With Superstition. 7 July 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The way superstition can cripple the mind, even for those of us who claim to be rational, is the subject of this classic film. It's the story of a man (Michael Hordern) at a society dinner party in Hong Kong who is coaxed into revealing the details of a dangerous prophetic dream in which eight persons (most of those listening) take off in a plane from Bangkok bound for Tokyo and how it's to crash in the Japanese mountains.

The script by R.C.Sherriff, from an article by Victor Goddard, is balanced and intelligent and the sense of dread is wonderfully conveyed. This film, which was made in 1955, is a tour de force in suspense. It takes its subject of prophetic dreams dead seriously but unlimately it's tongue-in-cheek.

The DVD is 'digitally restored' meaning the picture and sound are very good indeed. A absolutely must see!

A fun movie, if you love airplanes and Hong Kong of yesteryear. A good yarn and well acted. Well made and also well remastered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get your facts right!! 1 Oct 2010
Format:DVD
An excellent film of its period. But has the Amazon reviewer seen the Film? Michael Redgrave is not the pilot (he is played by Nigel Stock.) Neither is Redgrave the author of the premonition- the naval commander played by Michael Horden was the person who had the dream! Sloppy editing!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unique Film. 15 Jun 2013
Format:DVD
A black and white film made with limited special effects BUT it beats most modern films made at great cost. The story is about the precognition of a plane crash experienced by an officer in the British Air Force. There is a top notch British cast
and some wonderful acting.Suspense with some humour is present throughout.
Interesting to recognise some now famous actors as they looked when they were much younger.
RLK.
