Possibly THE soul album of the 80's. Serious songs dealing with insecurity, heartbreak and at times the more sensual side of relationships this was Vandross' creative peak before his A+R dept. couldn't decide how to market him and his voice became frequently wasted on poorer, less adult music. Although often written off as some sickly 'lurvve' man this album highlighted the insecurity and doubt which is the core to many of the man's best songs. The string arrangements on numerous songs, particularly 'Other Side of the World' are innovative and highlight how musically redundant most of the current 'bump and grind' music is. Although never hitting the heights of the 70's this album proves that 80's soul was not the drum machine wasteland it sometimes seems. Possibly the best moneyyou'll ever spend.

Without doubt this is an albulm to melt into.
Marcus Miller & Nat Adderley jnr see to it that the rhythms are tight and funky when needed whilst also laid back and mellow when called for.
This albulm for me will stand the test of time. A moving catalogue of stories of hope, despair, trechery & desire.
This is an album that will live forever with anyone who enjoys Teddy P, Bobby Womack, Jeffery Osbourne, Billy Paul.
Quite simply, a classic slice of 80's soul.

Luther shows all the wanna be's exactly how to do it. If you like soul of the smooth style, this is definately for you. It's 15 years old now but still sounds fresh. A ballad heavy affair, the lyrics are predictable (except of the cover of Stevie's 'Creepin', which, dare I say it, tops the original), but it's the music which makes it. Smooth and relaxing. This album was made in Luther's ascendance, having hit the charts the previous years with 'Never too much', he was about to hit star status in his next album 'Give me the reason'. There are no commercial succeseses on this album, which is what makes it that much more special. Music to relax too, to dine too and to share those intimate moments. If you are a soul fan and like Boyz II Men, Maria Carey & R Kelley, then you'll love this.

This is simple put the best album ever made by both Luther Vandross and Marcus Miller as a producer.

This is an album I can hear over and over again, and I have owend it ever since it cam out on vinyl in 1990, and now on CD. No other Luther og Marucs Miller album makes me feel as good as this one. If you are a Marcus Miller fan i can recomend David Sandborn live, Straight to the heart, but fans might already have it.

Even that i have others of Luthers albums, non of them ever come close to this one, the ones younger than this is to 80....and the ones later relased it to 90 and to much sugerpop. This album is made perfektly right. Not until I heard Maxwells debut album did I hear an album that was as good as this one soul wise.
