Product Description

Sandi Toksvig takes over the Chair in four of the best episodes of the ever-funny comedy news show "The News Quiz", 'the finest topical comedy panel game known to radio', has been providing headlines and punchlines since it first aired in 1977, and spawned the hit television panel game "Have I Got News For You". These four episodes see the plucky panellists, including Alan Coren, Andy Hamilton Phill Jupitus and Jeremy Hardy, tackling the biggest news stories (and some of the smallest) with their inimitable wit and wisdom. With guest stars such as Clive Anderson, Jo Brand, Phil Hammond and Carrie Quinlan, they face questions on a variety of topics, from Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Iraq and the NHS to baffled hedgehogs, feisty female chimps, Jose Mourinho's dog and the shocking discovery that mice don't like cheese. Sandi Toksvig is at the helm, whilst newsreaders Harriet Cass, Corrie Corfield and Rory Morrison read a selection of the funniest cuttings. So sit back and enjoy the highlights of 2006 and 2007 from this smart, silly and satirical game show, distilled by the very best and wittiest commentators.

The 2007 release with Sandi Toksvig in the chair, featuring 4 whole episodes, broadcast on 8 Sept 2006, 27 Oct 2006, 5 Jan 2007 and 18 May 2007. It contains contributions from all the usual suspects, including two episodes with the late great Alan Coren.

In which we learn of:
Blair's tantric resignation, cash for honours scandals, Saddam's execution, the increase in rail fares, Prince Harry and Iraq, cyber attacks on Estonia...and the dangers of approaching water buffalo from behind.

The stars are for not for the DVD, but for the long delivery time. This DVD was ordered as the DVD from another seller proved faulty. The original seller didn't have another in stock, but gave a fast refund. Much of what had been heard before becoming unplayable was witty and funny, so as it had been a birthday gift I ordered a replacement from another seller. Very disappointed, as it took from 22nd February until today, 15th March to arrive. As other items ordered from Amazon have arrived incredibly swiftly I cannot think why one DVD should take 23 days to arrive. (The original seller's DVD had arrived quite quickly.) If out of stock I wish they had informed me at the beginning. As a birthday present it is around 3 weeks late. Hopefully, it will be possible to hear the whole DVD and more feedback will follow on the actual News Quiz.
