Product Description

The complete illustrated guide to planning, growing, storing and preserving your own garden produce from 'the grand master of self-sufficiency' (Kitchen Garden), John Seymour

John Seymour’s classic guide gives you the knowledge and expertise to create your own self-sufficient garden and produce what you need. Whatever the size of your space, discover how to garden organically and maximise your harvest, without the need for radical changes to your lifestyle.

From cultivating vegetables to making cider, keeping chickens to training vines, you’ll garden in tune with the seasons, growing for the year, eating for today and storing for tomorrow.

No specialist knowledge required: just clearly explained principles and practicalities ideal for any gardener.

I can't fault the information given in this book (other than some parts being out of date); nor quarrel with the presentation, which is lovely. However 118 pages of this book have been drawn (identically) from Seymour's "The New complete book of self-sufficiency". Another 30 pages briefly cover topics discussed in more detail in the other book. Hence over half this book is contained within the other work. If I had realised this at the time of purchase I would not have bought it - I would recommend you buy "The new complete book of self-sufficiency" and something else to complement its dicussion of gardening.

Good 26 May 2011
Format:Hardcover
Arrived promptly & well packaged; price reasonable & publication quality likewise. Have a bit of an issue with all the current rash of 'self-sufficiency' gardener type of books in that usually end up flitting between 3 or 4 to get an overall view of options/ techniques/ methods. (Also a lot seem to be half cook-book/ half gardening advice) This appears to be fairly comprehensive and written in a fairly accessible way. Certainly enough illustrations etc.... there were a few things missing that would have liked in there - so rating reflects actual book itself rather than transaction, which was fine.

Very comprehencive vegetable garden book in that it includes not just the gardenibg but also methods of storing, preserving and the general post handling of produce.

A great garden book
This book is similar to the Encyclopaedia of Self Sufficiency by the same author but with more of a focus on smaller scale growing rather than raising livestock. Read more

Dated, but still an inspiration
This is a reprint of Seymour's 30 year-old classic with its still-inspirtional illustrations, but with a text that is out of date in so many ways. Read more
