This book carries on from the Colgan Institute's other publications. It gives an insight into what is really happening to the body while we spend those hours down the gym.

Just the chapter on stretching changed a whole chunk of my training program, the results have been brilliant.

Having read his 5-star book on sports nutrition, I thought that this book would be similarly (a)scientific and (b) knowledgeable. However, my hopes for the former were dashed when he quoted Einstein's formula E=mc^2 as a formula for power (although this does approximate a correct formula for kinetic energy) and proceeded to use it in an almost meaningless fashion. He scores more points for (b) but it seems to me that his knowledge is 2nd hand here. There is no mention of complex training at all, and no real reasons are given for the details of the program he suggests. The chapter on mental preparation is laughable but at least it's at the end so that you don't bin the book before reading it.

Awesome 28 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
Awesome, amazing book. In depth explanation of how each muscle in the body moves, and how best to exercise & strengthen it. He covers all the functional muscles, and also all the stabilisation muscles. The result is that you gain strength whilst retaining balance - I am now getting fewer training injuries and niggles than before.

Colgan really is an expert. Read this if you are into strength training, or if you have back or postural problems or other training injuries.
