I have worked in the fitness industry for over 6 years. Prior to that I was a long term repeat dieter and I suffered intermittent depression. I knew back then that there had to be a better model than calorie couting and hours of aerobic exercise. After years of experimenting and reading countless books I discovered this book quite by accident (thank you facebook!).

What is different about this book is that it's based on biochemistry. It explains that not all calories are equal and by choosing the right ratio of nutrients and by using exercise programs to spark your metabolism, you can exert control over your hormones in positive way. This diet is working with your body and not against it.

And what is even better about this program is that I no longer suffer episodes of depression. I now understand how food, stress, sunlight, sleep, food and exercise affect my hormones and my body and what I need to do to stay in balance.

Don't ever try another diet ever again.......read this book and you won't have to. The only minor negative aspect of this book is it was written in America and alot of the food options and suggestions are american based so may take some investigating to find alternatives or equivalents in the UK. But it is possible as I have found.

I read a lot of books on diet and fitness for two reasons: 1. I like to stay fit and healthy and 2. I run a diet and fitness website so I like to keep up to date with trends and new developments.

I found the information in this book to be a bit of each of the following:

Making the Cut: The 30-day Diet and Fitness Plan for the Strongest, Sexiest You - This book by Jillian Michaels is based around finding your body type which is determined by your metabolism and then adjusting your diet and exercise around that to best benefit for you rather than a 'one size fits all' approach.

Body by Science: A Research Based Program to Get the Results You Want in 12 Minutes a Week - An excellent and interesting book selling us the idea of working with our body rather than against it and again by listening to your body and adjusting your diet, you can apparently do exceptionally short workouts based on 'blasts' of energy in a power circuit fashion which will build muscle and burn fat quicker than the old 80s aerobic belief. It has long been realised that the body does not necessarily burn fat and act at its most effective while doing consistent aerobic workouts. This book is an excellent in depth analysis and explanation of how to utilise diet and exercise to best effect with minimal effort.

Interesting book, although each time I take the test I get a different result lol. I've found the exercise guidance helpful and combined their theory with Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Dropped 21lbs in weight and my fitness is the best it's been in years.

I found this book interesting, practical and easy to refer to. The way that the eating plan is explained around 'the science' was easy to understand and follow. I used the book mainly for the diet as I have been working out as the Metabollic Effect Diet has advised for some time but couldn't get my eating right.

As the writers suggest the mainstream diets are focused on losing weight but this plan helps you lose fat and not muscle. I lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks and reduced my fat percentage and it was so easy and the important thing is that I am not hungry or craving rubbish any more.

Definitely worth a read

A tough regime but if you follow it to the letter it's a brill programme!
If you're looking for a quick fix with minimum effort, then look somewhere else. The book is packed with the scientific understanding behind the plan, plus ways in which it should fit your new lifestyle.
The only downside is that it is for an American audience, therefore you have to find a British alternative for some recommended products, and they spell fibre (fiber) incorrectly all the way through! However, this doesn't detract from the fact that I've had brill results and will carry on following the plan for the foreseeable future. I feel fitter, stronger and healthier than ever, plus I've shrunk in size!! Fat burning forever!
