Review

Are great traders born or do they acquire their skills on the way up?...The New Market Wizards provides some interesting insights. --Wall Street Journal

Provides unique insight into the arcane world of currency trading as well as other fast-moving markets such as options and commodities. --U.S. News & World Report

Should be required reading for anyone who selects managers for institutional or even personal portfolios. --Futures Industry --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Inside Flap

Taps into the minds of trading superstars to reveal the secrets of their astonishing success You may not know their names, but they are the trading elite—a select group of super-moneymakers whose trading prowess has become the stuff of legend. They are speculators in everything from stocks and bonds to options and commodity futures who make millions—sometimes in a matter of hours—and leave their peers in the dust. In this enthralling sequel to his international bestseller, Market Wizards , Jack Schwager interviews these stars, asking the questions that everyone with an interest in the financial markets would love to know the answers to and receiving the kind of frank, incisive answers that make this book as much a page-turner as its predecessor. In these absorbing interviews with star performers in the financial markets, Schwager humanizes the mechanics and psychology behind the trading world across a spectrum of financial markets including stocks, futures, currencies, and options by individuals, investment firms, and group-trading computerized "money machines." One trader focuses on market response to news events, another calculates mathematical probabilities—one even cocks an ear to the noise level on the exchange floor. All rank assiduous research, self-confidence, a specific plan, and the courage to cut losses among essentials to success. None consider their trading gambling, but Schwager entertainingly argues that a successful trader needs many of the qualities of a good poker player. Although filled with insights that even professional traders will find valuable, Schwager's text remains entire accessible to the general reader. Interviews with spectacular winners across the full spectrum of financial markets, revealing how they do it and what, personally, separates them from the herd Superstar traders describe the financial strategies behind their phenomenal successes, as well as the painfully instructive lessons learned from their worst losses Throughout, Schwager provides valuable insight and analysis to help put interviewees' responses into perspective --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT! 29 Feb 2000
Format:Paperback
Excellent book to give the investment novice an insight to the world of trading. More than anything, Schwager gives an interesting background into the characters of each of the Market Wizards. If only all investment books were this fun to read! Once you start, you won't be able to put it down. Schwager should think about writing an updated Market Wizards III.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a broker... I bought it... you should, too! 21 Feb 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
If you don't want to spend twenty years and untold sums learning about trading by doing it yourself, learn from the experts in the time it takes to read this book. A great companion to Schwager's FUTURES series, all three should be in any trader's or wanna be trader's library. THE NEW MARKET WIZARDS has what it advertises... market wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still a brilliant read 5 Oct 2003
Format:Paperback
I've read parts of this book 4 or 5 times through, not only is it a brilliant read but provides undying insights into the mind of succesful traders. This was one of the first books I purchased on trading and over 40 books and a lot of profitable trades later, I rate it as the best read of them all. Once you pick this up you wont be able to put it down!

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read, enjoyable book 20 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a nice follow-up to the first Market Wizards book. Both books are enjoyable reading and if you pay close enough attention, there are many valuable insights, including the importance of using plain old common sense in trading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! A must for any type of investor 11 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I picked this book while waiting for a flight to Hartford. Needless to say it was full of insightful and useful information. Finally somebody peals the myth and mystique behind the futures market. The author gets to the point and addresses key issues. Ive just ordered the original Market Wizards. I am particularly interested in his interview with Jim Rogers (who started the Quantum Fund with George Soros)

5.0 out of 5 stars who better to learn from than proven performers? 18 Feb 1997
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
this is one of the books on my must have list for anyone even thinking about investing. although these are interviews with top traders, don't be fooled. many of the philosophies that become readily apparent as being shared amongst all interviewed in this title are just as valuable to medium and long term investors as well.
