I had been lent a copy of A Lion Handbook: The History of Christianity (revised edition 1990).I was struck by the attractive and clear format, the excellent illustrations and the quality of the material and I therefore decided to order a copy for myself - why not the latest edition? surely this would be even better in every way!
I concede that I am not being totally fair on the new book because I have read very little of it - for reasons to be explained. The BIG DRAWBACK is the print size. No doubt the contents are still as excellent as before but for me (indeed I assure you, there is nothing wrong with my eyesight!) there is no pleasure in sitting down for a good read when there is an element of 'strain' spoiling the experience. Unfortunately, I still haven't returned the previous book to its owner but until I do, my first instinct is to turn to that one.
