Book Description

13 April 2000
The close of the 20th century has witnessed the minority status of the traditional family in America. On the threshold of a new millennium, now is an opportune and urgent time to give voice to the intimacies of alternative lifestyles, including open marriage. Traditional monogamy is still the prize for countless adults searching for meaning and love in their lives. That search is honored by myriad religious and societal supports. It is to non-traditionalists, to those ready for new life and love affirmations, that this book is offered with joy. The evolution of human consciousness prepares the way for the unfolding of our universal polyamorous potential. Let the pioneers be unafraid to move beyond the ancient limits of relationships to the new intimacy of responsible erotic freedom. May the new millennium be the end of pleasure-phobia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Open Marriage 5 Jan 2007
By Tatiana Costello - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
At a stage in my life where I thought I was going crazy, this is what I needed. married with children, but not wanting to split my family, I think that open marriage is a great altrnative, and it's great knowing that I'm not alone in this dilema. Only one problem: getting my straying husband to read it!
5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say? 23 Jan 2013
By W. VASSAR - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Unfortunately, perhaps, the lifestyle described by the author has become common. I say, "perhaps," because whether it is good or bad depends on a reader's perspective. Good or bad, it is probably the future. With women having high -paying jobs, often higher-paying than men, they don't need a man to raise a child, and men are beginning to wake up to this fact. This and the opportunity of a wife to cheat on her husband add up to just the kind of thing Mazur describes.

The New Intimacy:
Open-Ended Marriage and Alternative Lifestyles

(Boston: Beacon Press, 1973) 134 pages

A brief but comprehensive book
dealing with all dimensions of open relationships:
varieties of non-traditional relationships; changing social expectations;
relatives, colleagues, & friends; children;
sexual and sensual problems; pregnancy and STDs;
jealousy and possessiveness; communication and honesty;
moral and religious problems; homosexual relationships;
ending relationships; divorce and divorce-reform.

This is a book of theory rather than practice.
The author believed we were about to enter
a new age of "open-ended marriage".
Even tho no major shifts have occurred,
his careful thinking about multiple relationships is still worth reading.
