Sakkara is the second book in The New Heroes series, by Michael Carroll. The series focuses on the next generation of superhumans, as they become both heroes and villians!
Now that the characters have been introduced, the pacing gets even faster! The effects of the first book are felt, and it has changed the mood. Danny is reeling from his loss, and his family are trying to stay together despite all that has happened.
Colin and Renata are now living together, and really seem to be more like siblings. They don costumes, fight crime, and save lives together. Even if they're always arguing, they do seem to care for each other.
Again, Carroll takes the characters out of their comfortable envioronment, and hits them hard and fast! Nobody and nothing is safe, and the usual superhero traditions are no exception. I can't spoil any of the plot, because it's just too enjoyable to do that.
All I can say is: this is brilliant. This has claimed its place as my favourite book, and I'm pretty sure it'll be staying there until the next one!
While reading the first book in the series, The Quantum Prophecy, is recommended (highly!), it's quite possible to come to this cold. Though, you certainly won't enjoy it as much without it.
However, if you have read the first book, this may well be the greatest book you ever read!
