Having read two articles in The Times about this book I decided to order it and give it a go.

The eating plan is easy to follow, doesn't create hunger pangs or cravings and really is quite straightforward. I'm 5 days in to the eating plan now and have lost 5 pounds in weight. Hopefully, it's fat rather than lean body mass. The author provides a really good structure which the reader can use to nourish themselves in terms of food intake and also challenges many approaches to exercise and fitness. Reading these points are like a breath of fresh air - and the approach seems to be working, for me at least!

Why not a 5 star rating if the book is so good? For me there is just too much 'padding' to fill out the book. It's still readable but it seems to babble on for too long on subjects that just aren't directly related to the diet/exercise regime and how to do them properly. Still worth every penny in terms of value (reflected in my weight loss).

I am not a dieter at all, but I do try to eat healthily and have always tried to keep fit, so I started this from being in a reasonable (but slowly degrading with age)type of shape.

I've followed this regime for several months now, its amazing the way
muscle grows and fat falls away from your body slightly noticeably after a week and
after a couple of months very noticeable.

Other beneficial effects are that I sleep better and I am definitely able to concentrate on difficult tasks for longer.

I eat as much as I like of the foods allowed this is not about restricting input, so I don't have to go hungry at all except a little on the occasional recommended fasts (miss one meal).
For exercise I use weights to workout very hard twice, sometimes three times a week for 30 mins max each time.

The book covers and explains everything in a very clear way, its an enjoyable read and clearer than the 'de vany' website, which I find has many gems but they are often hidden away.

If you are happy to eat this diet, no chips, no potatos, no sweet things, no pizzas or bread, with only occasional beers and wine, but plenty of good fresh produce and if you will put considerable physical effort into short blasts of hard exercise then I'm sure it will work for you too.

I recommend it.

As an afficiondo of Art's blog for more than 2 years, I am already a beneficiary of the New Evolution Diet in terms of weight loss, general fitness and health levels. After eating and excercising this way, it's hard to see a good reason to ever return to old habits which essentially lead to premature aging and disease. As far as the book is concerned, despite the fact that I am fully aware of the lifestyle Art advocates, I still learned a lot a new things that perhaps are harder to find on the blog. The key point of the book is not that Art is an advocate of the Paleo lifestyle - although of course he is - but that that he found the key concepts and benefits of the diet and lifestyle independently to scientific theory, through his own experimentation, making his views much more valid. I think it's key that Art also tries to improve on the Paleo diet in a number of ways - particularly through Glutathione supplementation for which he is a strong advocate and an approach to excersising taking in power law dynamics, and the way living systems actually behave.

Art's New Evolution Diet has been a revelation to me since I first discovered it after an article in the Sunday Times in August 2009. It has been life changing for me in so many ways. I cannot recommend this book, and Art's approach as documented on his blog, highly enough. As long as you put it's principles into practice, it could actually be the most important book you ever read.

Arthur De Vany has a wonderful way of explaining complex biological systems in a way that a layman (like me) can understand. The book is very personable and makes you feel he's there with you; I can 'hear' him encouraging me to succeed...
It's a 'gear up' from the Hayes meathod. (Both diets allow your body to repair/heal itself.) Knowing the way my body reacts to food(s) and exertions I subject it to, helps me resist the daily temptations of modern eating/living habits. For health reasons, it will be a way of life for me. I have been using his system since I purchased his book. The weekly menues are a great help (especially getting my head around what to have for breakfast), the Bibliography in the back of the book has further technical/scientific support reading on the subject. I felt more energised almost over night. I haven't lost that much weight (its only been 3 weeks) but I have lost inches, so something is happening. I've even seen a difference in my husband who is not on the 'diet' but eats what I eat at home. If your goal is self improvement, then I recommend this book.

I bought it, tried it out and got results: the creeping middle-aged spread came off, the blood sugar crashes ceased as my glucose levels seemed to become stable and I gave up doing long workouts for good.

I enjoyed Art's writing style too although I know other reviewers didn't: I liked the way he wove in his ideas about economics and I found his own personal story extremely moving. Most writers on diet and fitness are very dull: Art has wisdom and humour.

So why only 3*? First, it's expensive: even if you buy cheaper cuts of meat etc the high levels of veg and protein are pricey. But also the book promises too much. You get the sense that if you were to follow this you would become Superman - looking forward to a golden old age full of health, vitality and if you are male, apparently awesome levels of testosterone too! Me? I still feel tired, have allergies, still get colds and I don't think my the grey in my hair has gone away.

Definitely worth reading, but be realistic in the results you expect.
