This has always been an excellent book and as a teacher of crochet, I use this as the recommended book for my students. I just wanted to clear up that this is indeed the English version. To be clear (and I know because I own the original edition, the poorly advertised American edition and now this new edition) if unsure, just check the colour of the cover. The edition released before Christmas has a black background and is the American version. The edition released in March 2013 with the pale blue background to the cover is the English version. Hope this helps.

This book is the new revised edition of Jan Eaton's excellent book. It has the same pictures in, same projects to make. BUT it uses the AMERICAN version of crochet, not the ENGLISH as in the original book. I am not a happy bunny as I thought I was getting the original ENGLISH crochet techniques, just an updated reprint. Nowhere (that I could see) was it indicated that this is NOT English crochet....buyer beware. This book will be returned. Please, please please Amazon, will you state if crochet books are English or American terminology!!

This is a wonderful book, I am a beginner, had one 5 hour course and this book has been so so useful for reference and reminders of stitches The instructions are clear as are the photos. My sister has a copy too and she feels the same. I have used mine for nearly everything I have been working on for reference.

The blue copy is definately english crochet terms as previously advised by other purchasers.

I've seen (and bought) other books that purport to be comprehensive guides to crochet and they've always fallen short. The other big problem is that most books use American terms which can be confusing. This book (with the Blue cover) is in English (not American) and has clear written instructions, diagrams and pictures, so even a complete novice can see how to do the stitches and what the finished pattern should look like. The few projects in the book are a little uninspiring and 1960ish but don't let that put you off. I've just completed a Biker Jacket in Double Crochet stitch, working in the front loop only. Simple but effective. This book allows you to learn a stitch and make up your own patterns at the same time. I quite fancy making an 'angled cluster' waistcoat next. What will you try?

This book is an excellent resource. Packed full of tuition, right from basic to more complex techniques, all clearly explained with lots of photos. I love all the illustrated samples showing how different stitches work up (next to instructions on how to make these stitches) As a result I've mastered some stitches I had been struggling with. There's lots of ideas and a few projects too. Well worth the money.

Blue bordered book has UK/Australian stitch references (the black bordered version is US stitches)
