Messy recording _ quality could be a lot better. Herbie Hancock should provide his tapes for remastering.
Yellow moon the best song on this album.

Where it all began.. 1 Aug 2005
By Southern Slim - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Here's the original album that Aaron's signature song is derived and if you think it's the only hit on the album, you're dead wrong. I bought this CD strictly to have the original version of Tell It Like It Is and was pleasantly surprised to find out what a great album this was. The big plus with this edition besides the remastered sound, is the inclusion for the first time of information on the original sessions. Musicians that played on these sessions have been a mystery for years - finally someone had the smarts to do a little research and give the musicians their just due (which include Deacon John and Willie Tee for starters) This is THE VOICE's first solo album, now that it's done up right, what are you waiting for? This is a must have for any fan of New Orleans R&B.

A Classic, But Not Stereo as Promised 16 Jan 2006
By Bill Anthony - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I'm an Aaron Neville fanatic, and was excited by this beautifully packaged reissue of his Par-Lo album,

but the sticker on the CD said "Remastered in Stereo"

and it's in straight MONO. I know a stereo master exists,

as this original hit version of the song "Tell It Like It Is"

was released in stereo on a Rhino compilation a few years ago.

Still a great sounding classic!

Good selection of Aaron Neville's ballads and some other more eclectic material 7 Jan 2008
By R. Kyle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Is this definitive? I don't think so; however, the CD is an interesting assortment of the ballads we have all heard and some more eclectic material.

"Tell it Like it is," "Jailhouse," and "Hold on, help is on the way," are welcome ballads.

Then, we have the oddities that don't get a lot of play like "Space Man" which made me laugh.

Some good songs here, but sound quality is not great 6 July 2007
By R. Kyle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I don't know if it's a bad press, but the sound quality is not as good as I had hoped for. Still some good music on this collection. The title song is the hitmaker here, but "Cry Me A River," Bread's "Baby I'm a Want You", and "Yesterday" are standouts as well. This is mostly covers, but well done ones.

I was more than a bit disappointed in this disc; however I knew it was a remastered mix so should have been prepared.
