PLOT SUMMARY: Twenty years ago, Tony Egan's sister went to America. Nobody ever heard of her again. But now, the message of her death arrives in her town of birth. Only days later, her only son Chad arrives, too. Obviously, his mother took a black husband. Soon, Chad falls for Aislin, who has a bit of a crush on him too. But there is an old conflict going on between her father and Chad's uncle. This conflict resurfaces and begins to draw circles, wider and wider.
ABOUT THE DVD: This is a release for the NETHERLANDS market by VIDEO FILM EXPRESS (Region 2 PAL format, which is the same as in the UK, so it will play without problems on all standard DVD players in the UK and the rest of Western Europe). The text on the rear of the packaging is in Dutch, and the only subtitles on the disc are Dutch language (which can be switched off, but there are no English subtitles on the DVD). AUDIO is the original ENGLISH language (Dolby Digital 2.0). The film is in WIDESCREEN (16:9 ratio) and runs for a total of 106 minutes, there is a Scene Selection menu and the film's original Theatrical Trailer on the disc too.

Format:VHS Tape
This film, featuring Pierce Brosnan, is an interesting mix-- racial, national, and sexual concerns all clash together in Ireland to make The Nephew definitely worth watching. There's tension everywhere you look. Hill Harper does a fantastic job with the title character, whose return to Ireland upon the death of his mother creates trouble on the little island of Inis Dara. It's all sorts of love story-- tragedy mixed with new chances-- and explores what it means to really *belong* to a community. I was fortunate enough to watch this on cable in the States shortly after its release, sometime in 1999... but it's impossible to find in stores. Take a chance on this great film-- you won't regret it!

Format:DVD
My husband and I saw The Nephew by chance, and watched it several times after.It tells a story of true love and betrayal by the people you love.And it gave this young man an opportunity to learn more about his Mother and eventually her reasons for not returning home.It is a movie that crossed the racial lines and a lesson to be learned as history repeats itself.This movie can be seen by all ages.Wereally enjoyed the movie.

This is a truly lovely film. Great real-life story, real actors not just americain "stars", wonderful music. Completely involving. We've watched it 10 times since we got it!! Yes, I know, it is very sad!

Manages to be sweet without being twee
Maybe this caught me in the right mood or something, but I could not help but be charmed by this gentle Irish melodrama. The story is set in a tourist-board-pretty Irish cove. Read more
