There's no escaping the fact that the language quality in this book is shockingly bad. You can expect some kind of error on average once per paragraph - words missing, extra words that shouldn't be there, the wrong form of a word (especially "their" instead of "they're"), bad punctuation, or just a typo that the spell-check somehow missed.

Having said that, the story-telling is superb. There is a real sense of credibility about it, while at the same time it is fast-paced and gripping.

The errors really grate. They interrupt the flow constantly, jerking the reader out of any sense of immersion in the story. But overall it's worth it - the story is THAT good. Maybe it's just me being picky, so go ahead, try it. I'm glad I did.

Format:Kindle Edition
I very much enjoyed this fast-paced war story in space. The settings are particularly well imagined and realised. Humanity is the true protagonist in this book, rather than any particular character. As a result only a few of the characters are well rounded and complex and occasionally I wanted to stay longer with them. To be fair this does not try to be the next great novel exploring character and the nature of man. I would say that it would make a compelling action movie or an episode for a Star Trek type series. On the down side, whilst automated spell checking has ensured that true spelling mistakes are kept to a minimum there are some infuriating and oft repeated confusions; e.g. "their" is invariably used for "they're", "to" is invariably used for "too". There are several similar problems. Normally the irritation of such errors would make me abandon a book very quickly since the jarring misuse of language jolts me from my involvement in the story. It is a testament to this new author's interest grabbing story that I was able to persevere and I am glad that I did. I cannot wait for the next volume in this planned trilogy. I would proof read it free of charge because the lack of a real proofreader is the only thing that stopped me giving full marks to this first effort. I do recommend this to fans of space opera and action sci-fi. We still don't know much about the "Nameless" or their motivation but I hope we will soon learn more. This is a cracking first effort by a self publishing author. Give it a try.

I agree with Foggy's review about all of the mistakes which could have been prevented by some decent proofreading. In fact, I found the author's inability to differentiate between 's and s (possessive vs plural), they're vs their vs their, bad punctuation and clauses appearing as if they were complete sentences to be very off-putting. So, two stars lost because of this.

The actual story is excellent and I am looking forward to the second and third parts of this trilogy - especially if they have been properly proof-read first!
